iphone/pda

ok, I am computer ILliterate...I can turn it on and check my email and post on here, that's about it

sooo, I was wondering, because I've seen people on here say that pda's are good for nursing school because you can look up all the meds & such and not carry around a bunch of books. the iphone, i was told, works as a pda (btw, I don't exactly know what a pda is) I don't "play" on the internet unless it's for school, so it would not be a distraction for me, just wanting to know if it would be an asset for nursing school. (to ask as a gift for my birthday hee hee)

Moved to the PDA forum where I am sure you will get more of a response. I do like my TX PDA and great looking at programs without having to carry the books around like drugs.

Re: iphone/pda

let me add to this, because now that this was moved I have read about 1000 posts about it...who knew??

how easy is it to learn how to use the iphone/pda feature? is there something or somewhere that "teaches" you how to use it. i swear it takes me a week to figure out how to change the ringtone whenever i get a new phone.

Re: iphone/pda

I just got a new cell contract, and got a Treo 680 for $100 without a data plan. If you want the data plan ($30 a month) then you can actually get money back on the phone. If you want to know who I went through, pm me cause I'm not sure that's allowed here.

Oh, and the Treo is easy to use because it has the touch screen. I downloaded some trial software from Skyscape, and it's awesome. When I get my financial aid I'll upgrade it to the full version.

I bought myself a PDA for my Nursing School. It helped me because everything is there. It also connects to internet, but it's not good as my laptop. I can't view myspace in the PDA =D. It also helps me to motivate to study a lot. I use it anywhere.

I don't know.. it's something about me that if I have gadgets, it just motivates me. I like electronics stuff.

Re: iphone/pda

The iPod touch, which is basically an iPhone without the phone or camera, is the best gadget I have ever owned, and I have owned many.

The iPod Touch's lack of camera and cell phone is a plus when it comes to regulations against such devices in some health care settings. It also lacks a monthly fee of any kind, which is another big plus.

We should see the downloadable drug books coming in June for apple's products. Epocrates will be first, with Davis soon to follow. I plan on writing a full review of Epocrates on the iPod touch after it is released.

This version of the software will support pictures.

Here is a video link:
http://www.epocrates.com/iphone/compatibility/

The iPod Touch / iPhone are amazing devices. Though a bit pricey, I have no buyers remorse at all.

You betcha! Skyscape probaly already has it done and it waiting on the appstore release (early July). I base this assumption on two things...

1)http://www.skyscape.com/iphone/iphoneintro.aspx
from the website

"Skyscape is working with Apple to bring the next generation of medical applications to your iPhone and iPod Touch... We expect to release an upgrade that maximizes the capabilities of the iPhone platform." - skyscape

2)porting existing code/programs into iphones is crazy easy. Developers already have access to the tools they need to do this...

If you are going to buy an iPhone.....wait for the new model available at
$199 (8 gigs) in early July!!! (2 year AT&T contract required) This is why all the cell phone companies are trying to get people to by phones at $199 NOW. They are terrified of the iPhones new price in July, and want to saturate the 200 dollar market to try to weaken its release.

The new software update will also give us access to viewing powerpoint, and some other features...

I cant stress enough how much i love my iPod Touch. I really think iPod/iPhone is the future of medical PDAs.

There are also some Anatomy and Phys programs to help students memorize "on the go" coming in July. I saw the demo on keynotes and it looks awesome....

Re: iphone/pda

Yea, that's why I'm lusting after the new iphone. GPS plus possible med apps.... and the app store is really cool.. It's actually already online, but obviously you need an itouch/iphone to dl the apps.

I'm STOKED that skyscape will hopefully be available!!
