Here is a list of all the free programs I have on my Palm TX. There are many more available, of course, but these are the ones I have found most useful. Some might have been mentioned before, so forgive me if I am repeating another's suggestions.
I am leaving out time-limited and info-disabled trials, but including some full-featured shareware. All of these will work on a compatible Palm, some have Pocket PC versions. Some resources are only available to students currently in a nursing program, and a few to licensed professionals only.
Merck Medicus has some great resources available to licensed pros:
As mentioned before, currently enrolled healthcare students get
FREE access to the PDA-based clinical tools and information from Micromedex. I have found the information to be helpful, but it runs slowly on my TX, so I only have the alternative meds and toxicology, and use Merck and Epocrates (
Epocrates, home of the world's most widely used mobile medical references) for drugs and lab info.
I just found this great NCLEX study resource today:
Thomson Delmar Learning's Nursing Review Series
PateintKeeper is the best patient tracking software I have found. There's a bit of a learning curve, but I have had little trouble configuring it to suit my needs. Keeps track of vitals, labs, meds, and much more. I can even set of a list of tasks and set alarms for them. You can
Download a Trial Version here. As far as I can tell it's fully functional and you can take as long as you need to try it out.
Adobe Acrobat has a really great Palm version. It will convert any .pdf file to Palm format, though the results are not always perfect:
Adobe Reader for Palm OS
Adobe Reader for Pocket PC
Adobe Reader for Symbian OS
John Hopkins has a great antibiotic guide:
Download Antibiotic Guide
WISER is a designed to assist first responders in hazardous material incidents. There's info on hazardous substances, including substance identification support, physical characteristics, human health information, and containment and suppression advice. My favorite feature is the unknown substance ID--really cool!

The entire USDA nutrient database can be
Downloaded here.
Mac OS users have free access to the excellent flashcard program StudyCard Studio at
www.digitalmeadow.com, which includes a read-only Palm program.
