Bluetooth?

Can anyone explain bluetooth to me? I have it on my T5, but damned if I know what to do with it! Is this something that will be a huge benefit for me? I was reading up on it online, but so far everything I have found seems to be written in technogeek. Can anyone put it in plain english?

Thanks for the help,
"Not-so-tech savvy Lori"

Re: Bluetooth?

Basically its a wireless headset. You can program it into your phone, so your phone can find the bluetooth device. But you must program it into your phone first before you try to use it, otherwise it won't work. If you don't know how to program it into the cell phone, then you can go to a RadioShack, or a cell phone store near you to help you program it into your cell phone. I have a bluetooth headset and I love it because I don't have to fumble around trying to answer my phone while I am driving and its totally hands free. I could have a bunch of groceries in my hand and I don't have to cradle my itty bitty cell phone in between my neck and my shoulder so I can free up my hands. And its wireless, so I don't get caught up in nothing. You'll absolutely love it!!! Hope this helps!!!

Re: Bluetooth?

P.s., you have to buy the headset, it doesn't come with the phone I forgot to mention. You can buy it where you got your cell phone at or you can buy it at RadioShack, thats where I bought mine at. I paid about $70.00 dollars for mine, but you may be able to find it a little cheaper than that in your area.

Re: Bluetooth?

So..bluetooth is for phones or PDA's with phones only. It's not used for PDA's without phones?

Re: Bluetooth?

Oh, maybe you can get on your pda too. But it should be the same process.

Re: Bluetooth?

If your computer is set up with it you can access that too. Most people I know don't actually use their Bluetooth technology(especially if they don't have a phone), but do use their Wi-Fi.

Re: Bluetooth?

I should add that the T5 just has Bluetooth, but doesn't come with Wi-Fi. However, you may purchase a Wi-Fi card.

Re: Bluetooth?

Jess,

Those sites definitely helped. I will be upgrading my Zire 71 soon and have been wondering about the Wi-Fi vs. Bluetooth thing. From the looks of it and to simplify it for others, it seems as if they are both wireless capabilities, but they each have their own "network" so to speak. Is this an accurate description?

Not exactly. Bluetooth is merely a wireless technology. If your computer has wireless capabilites (such as a wireless keyboard) you can access your computer or mobile phone from your PDA to make use of that computer's or phone's internet access (if you're hooked up to the internet).

Wi-Fi enables a person to access the internet on their own. You would not have to have your PDA "communicate" through your own computer's internet access or your mobile phone.

...and technology was supposed to make all of our lives easier...
