axim slow after skyscape installation

My axim is running soo slow after i installed nursing constellation and tabers on my pda. Can someone help me out with this? After i look up a drug on davis' drug guide and try to switch to a new med the screen kind of freezes and locks up and starts going realllly slow. The programs came on a memory card and i installed them and keep the memory card in. I dont konw what im doing wrong but im not getting these fast speeds i used to get. I cant have an axim that constantly freezes on me. I dont have anything installed excpet the new skyscape software i just added.

In the memory settings it says this

STORAGE
total: 195.01 mb
In use: 10.22 mb
FREE: 185.79 mb

Program
Total: 49.47 mb
In use: 17.13mb
FREE : 32.34mb

Can someon ehelp me figure out why its going soo slow now?

Try reinstalling if possible, sometimes windows products are screwy and just need reinstalled. It looks like you have plenty of free space. The programs will run slower if you run them off of the card rather than the internal storage as well.

Also make sure that the power management of the processor is on automatic, becaust the lower speed that saves battery will also slow and maybe even lock up the PDA.

Re: axim slow after skyscape installation

After reading the other post you have, I would question whether or not your axim is screwed up.

There may also be a problem with the PDA software, the axim x30's had a similar problem until the bios was changed. Go to the dell site and try to update your PDA, this may help.

If there is a bios update you will have install it then call skyscape for another install code as well, but its easy to do.

You know I have been having the same exact problem, I even returned my Axim 51v to Dell for a replacement after Tech Support there could not help me and still I am experiencing the some problem so after about an $800 investment I am at a loss of words and just waiting wondering what to do next. It sucks having to flip thru a drug book at work with a pocket PC frozen in my scrub pocket.

Another lesson to learn is to not buy software on SD cards. It is a waste of money. You spend more money on a very small sd card when you could have easily installed it on a blank sd card that is relatively cheap. And you can always download the programs again from skyscape's website to reinstall them later.

Re: axim slow after skyscape installation

Have you tried closing some of your running programs to make it run faster? What I have noticed in mine is that, if I have too many open programs my ROM could not handle it and it sometimes freezes to the point that I have to do a soft reset. My ROM zise is only 128mb I can only use word and Micromedex without any problem.

Agreed. My 51v had major issues, like always needing a soft-reset to run the programs off the memory card, but after I installed the V12 BIOS upgrade, it runs [almost] problem free. You will have to reinstall all your PDA software but it is worth it.

The only skyscape program that is still buggy for me is Tabers. Sometimes it gets stuck and I have to soft-rest to clear it.

Re: axim slow after skyscape installation

i have about 10 medical-nursing programs on my dell axim x5 which i bougght 2 years ago. i also have pictures and music on them. if its getting slow, try to do a soft reset. it always works for me. just think, ive had that thingamajig for 2 years, used it in school and all my rotations, never having to carry those heavy books like the rest of the class. i would love to change it to a slimmer one, preferably to a pda phone, i just havent found one that suits my needs.

what is the speed of your pda? bec mine is a 400 mhz and its still ok despite all these programs. the memory size can affect your speed, but its usually the pda speed on the specs that matter.

Re: axim slow after skyscape installation

This isn't the same problem I'm having but I found a skyscape troubleshooting page. Maybe they have info...
