Question Anyone have the HP iPAQ PDAs?

I am considering a purchase of the HP iPAQ rx1955 from Costco (they've got it for $260) It's a pocket PC with WiFI. My old PDA died over Christmas and am a new student...figured it was time anyway to upgrade. With the Clie quitting for the last time it has become an urgent matter

I've seen many other models under this topic but not much discussion on the HP except for the fact that they are usually more expensive than the average.

Any comments?

Re: Anyone have the HP iPAQ PDAs?

I have a h1945 iPAQ - I believe the rx1950 is the successor to the one I have. My dad just retired from HP, so I've grown up with HP and that might make me a little biased, but I love my iPAQ. It's a few years old now, and I've had no problems at all with it. I have a great collection of medical apps I use on it at my clinical sites all the time.

Having said that, I know the rx1950 doesn't have Bluetooth. I personally use Bluetooth a lot for headphones and data transfers, so that would be a downside of the rx1950 for me. If you don't use Bluetooth, though, I think it's a great choice.

I have been using IPAQ since beginning my nursing career back in June and absolutely love it!! I can't remember the model # but it has the wifi (don't know how to use it) and a camera which I love to play around with.

Good luck with your HP purchase. I really haven't had any problems with it!!

Re: Anyone have the HP iPAQ PDAs?

I have the 3700. wouldn't go to work with out it. Doctors, other nurses and my nursing supervisor have asked to use it!! Also a great hands on teaching tool for myself and my pts. It is great to go into a room and be able to have most answers at my fingertips. I have three medical programs loaded on it, a digital camera and wireless internet access. Eveything one needs to practice with confidence.
Enjoy yours !!!

Re: Anyone have the HP iPAQ PDAs?

I'm an LPN student. I have an RX3115 and I use it alllllllllllllllll the time, and not always for school/work-related stuff.

In addition to ePocrates and a medical dictionary, I have all kinds of games on it, I use it as an mp3 player, and I've even watched movies on it in those final days of the quarter where we're not doing anything in class. I picked up a 1 gig memory card from WalMart for about $60, so I can put all kinds of nifty junk on there.

I got a refurbished one from the HP website. I love how it looks, now if I could just sit down and learn how to use it. Heck, I don't even know what it is!!! I have a HP laptop with a wireless connection, as well as an HP wireless printer, so I figured I would stick with the "package". Any suggestions on what I should do to get her up and running would be greatly appriciated. Stupid question here, but is it just like a laptop?

Woogy,

I just received mine 3 days ago and am still learning how to use all the functions. To answer your question, yes, it does a lot of the functions that a computer can do (that's why they call it a pocket PC). Depending on the programs you have, you can do a lot of the same stuff.

Yes, it doesn't have bluetooth but I figured I could live without it. It has WiFi though I haven't figured out how to use it yet. I thought it would be nice to be able to access the web via the PDA.

What medical programs would everyone recommend? I know I can get the PDR free (purchased the book for school) but what else should I have? Medical dictionary? etc.?

Re: Anyone have the HP iPAQ PDAs?

I purchased the hx2495 and I am SOOOOOO glad that I did. everyone asks to use it, impresses the pts as well and the instructors (LPN school 6/06) I have 4 programs on it that I use in school, at clinical and to do homework. I feel sooooooo sorry for those who are afraid or not willing to change their routines. advice to students...get one while you are learning and make your PDA your ROUTINE!!!
