All those with Palm PDA's...

I'm (almost) definitely going to get a PDA once nursing school starts (monday). I'm comparing the e2 with the tx. The Palm TX is 100 dollars more, and the difference I see is screen size (the e2 is about 1/2), resolution is slightly lower, and the e2 has no WiFi access. What do you guys with these handhelds think? Those with e2, did the smaller screen size frustrate you at all? How about no internet access? Those with the TX...did you get online as a student? How resourceful was that feature? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

I'd like to offer a different perspective. As a nursing student, how important is it that you receive email notification? Also, technology is changing fast. I started out about 8 years ago with what was at the time, the end-all of PDAs. However, I change PDAs about every two to three years in order to upgrade. For school, I would get the simplest PDA that will do what you need it to do. Something that will run ePocrates, have a calendar, phone contact lists and maybe memos. That is what I used the most in my early PDA years.

Now, as an APN, I have a smartphone with all the gadgets. Yet...I still don't need email notification of the 17th email spam. However, I DO need a good phone/PDA combo and I use the calendar, ePocrates Pro, memos for my lists of patients and other info I have downloaded from other source.

Just another perspective.

I had a Tungsten C...which I loved...Used it through nursing school and still use it on the med-surg floor I work on...Well the thing just stopped working...so instead of paying the 169.00 Palm wants to charge to fix...I'm going to buy the Palm TX...so far everything I've read about it has been good...of course it has problems like all the others...but for the price...it looks like the Palm TX is a decent deal.

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

I have the wi-fi access and I am suprised on how much I use it. I actually got it from Palm for $250 (they were having a sale). I got my case off e-bay for only $15, and it's perfect.

I'm not using it that much b/c I haven't started clinicals yet, but it is a very handy thing to have around.

I bought a TX yesterday. I had been using the E2. I am very happy with the screen size and the built in wi-fi is very handy. If course I haven't used it day to day yet but so far I think I'm going to like it much better.

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

I just ordered the TX used for $130 (including a 1GB memory card and accessories) -- thought I got a good deal. If I were a student, there's no way I would invest hundreds of dollars in something like that... I made it through nursing school perfectly fine without one as did all but 1 of the 80 people I graduated with (only one student had a PDA in my class). Sure, you have to carry a couple more books, and physically write more down, but having to write things down help you remember... I can easily see why they're fun to have and convenient, but personally as a nursing student I found a lot of other uses for that money than a PDA. Still, if I were a student I'd find one used (craigslist.com or ebay.com) over buying one brand new -- the only perk to getting one new is having the receipt and (sometimes) store warranty.
