Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

I love my Palm TX. I use the Palm outside of work all the time and the Wi-Fi is great. I could not be without Wi-Fi even though it is not used within the hospital. I check my mail at home without having to start up my PC and find that quite handy.

Web browsing on any small screen is a challenge but it's nice to have that function. I also like to be able to wirelessly sync the PDA
with my PC. The screen size is great for programs and I think the colors are beautiful.

I got mine for a discounted price with a free keyboard about a year and a half ago. Look for sales.

Enjoy!

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

Getting my first pda for Christmas...a palm t/x...I want one primarily for school/work references but having internet access seems like a cool feature. I am not very technologically advanced so to speak, so I am wondering if someone can explain exactly how the internet/wi-fi option works. Is it like a laptop where you have to be near a "hotspot" to utilize it? Or is it like your cell phone or home internet where you can subscribe and pay a monthly fee?

In addition to that, there is the email alert feature. If you have a web-based email versus outlook, I assume being able to access it is based on your being able to get online???

I have glanced at the website for this info and I THINK I get it but some of that lingo is beyond me.

Thanks for your help!

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

Hi,
It would be the equivalent of wireless on a laptop that allows you to hook up with any available wireless access point. If you were at a store or an airport or anywhere with "free Wi-Fi" you could access it and then be able to do anything requiring connectivity such as getting email or going to an Internet site. If you were somewhere that used say T-Mobile or AT&T fee based hot spots that charged folks without accounts, it would not allow you to access for free.
I use the built in Versamail to access mail from 2 POP3 email accounts and it works fine. Yes, to use web based email, you need to be connected to the Internet.
If you are at home and have access to wireless access via your Internet account, it will work there too. In other words, it can connect to any available wireless service you are in range of and can sign on to.
It also has Bluetooth built in.
Brighthand has info and forums where TX specific questions can be asked as well.

Enjoy

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

A coworker sold me her TX really cheap. She went to a Smartphone. I stuck with the Tx because I don't want to have to put all my eggs in one basket, telephone and PDA, because then I get socked with a monthly bill.

I have a cell phone with a flat rate, $40/month unlimited minutes & texting, which is good enough for me.

The TX holds all my nursing reference books (drug book, lab book, taber's, and others), keeps me organized with the day planner (the categories are color-coded so I'll have bills and deadlines in red, paydays in green, and so on), and I bought Splash money to replace carrying around my check register. (I like it so well, I tried the Splash wallet program and I'm probably going to buy that later on.)

I have all my photos on cards and I can pop them in and show them off anytime I want. The security is good. I can put a lock on the whole thing or just information that I don't want others to see. My calculator is pretty handy and getting popular with my coworkers, too.

Our hospital also has free Wifi, so sometimes when I'm on break I'll use it to surf the Net without getting into trouble with computer people.

I enabled the Bluetooth feature the other day, but I'm not sure how to use it. I think I could probably dial a number from the TX to my cell phone, via Bluetooth. But that's as far as I've gotten with it.

Re: All those with Palm PDA's...

I use my E2 at clinicals. I first went to office depot and looked at the selection; then, I purchased it online at an ebay shop.I picked the e2 because it was smaller than the TX and it will fit into my pocket nicely. I opted out of the wifi because I can't imagine the download speeds being very fast. It's not like I'm going to be playing Counterstrike on my palm. Regardless, treat your palm like a brick of gold. If it's not in your pocket or hand...its most likely in someone else's.

Love the TX, love the Wifi, love the blue tooth! Love it! Save your back, as best as you can! You have enough large patients to move that you don't need to carry the weight of two five year old children on your back every day! Look for sales and used...craigslist and ebay! I got mine on ebay with a load of software already loaded (Make sure it is the most updated software!) Good Luck!
