Hi, I'm in Atl, Ga. trying to complete core classes for the LPN to RN bridge program. So I'm going along and all of a sudden I find out that the school that I'm considering only accepts for Spring semester. I won't be finished w/ all core classes by Spring '09 (Jan-May). I'll be almost done, so that means I will have to wait to enter until Spring '10 which makes me graduate Spring '11. That was a blow. So I start to look for other schools that don't require you to have all the unneccessary classes (in my opinion) just to start the nursing program. Well there's another one that accepts for Summer '09 which by then I'll be finished with the core classes that are required for the 1st school but the 2nd school requires 3 extra classes and I won't be finished by Summer '09. Another blow. So I look outside of Ga. to a school in Alabama only 45 mins from me and they don't require any core other than the basic math,science and english and a communications class but the thing w/ them is they offer an aas degree. I don't know if this is such a bad thing but I was hoping for an asn. I don't want to sit out all of those months waiting to get into a program because for one right now I can't afford it. My finances are "just" getting me and my family by. With no room for anything extra (i.e. emergencies, expensive gas, childcare, money for my childs school expenses... football, and honor society trips.) I'm so confused right now. I don't want to give up I just don't know what to do. Nursing is one of the hardest careers to achieve (in my opinion.) I tried to do the accelerated program-which I am still paying for monthly but I don't attend. The turnover rate w/ instructors was so high. There were terrible language barriers w/ the instructors and the school was just starting out, I should have been aware then but I wasn't. Just excited about getting started w/ nursing and getting my RN. So now I'm facing the consequence of paying $13,000 for a school that I only attended for a short while.

Depending on which core classes you need maybe check into CLEPing some if you can. I love them for saving time and money. I think you have the right idea by applying to them all and if you get accepted into more than one you can always reconsider at that time. Hang in there, it will happen!

And when you say CLEP what exactly do you mean? I know what CLEP means, but I'm under the impression that no nursing program will accept you w/o those core classes i.e. (A&P 1,2., Micro, Math and Eng.) Is that correct?

May have been asked before but why not try Excelsior College. You probably have all you need to start today...you are an LPN right?

I think it's because the school that I'm still paying for was just like Excelsior. I think at this point I need class structure. I've tried the self taught course before and I didn't have a great experience and I'm still paying for that now.
