I'm thinking I might be the oldest lpn to rn student(57)I can't believe it will take me 3.5 years to finish! am currently taking a&p,pulling an A so far(1/2 done).the hardest part of the class is over, inst. said.I'm beginning to think I'm nuts for doing this, as I also need to work 3 pm's a week. will anyone even hire a 61 yo rn,besides ltc?is this cost effective?I do everything the rn does in ltc,why not be paid like 1?

Hello,
I just have to ask, why 3 and 1/2 yrs? Even with the pre reqs it will have only taken 1 1/2 yrs for me. Be careful they may have you taking more than you really need. They do it all the time.

CC here has 2 options for LVN to RN. The 30 unit option wich would take 3 semesters, I think it includes the necessary pre rec's. And then option b, after you complete pre recs, FT about 2 semester (i think). Then you test into the RN program and maybe able to forgo the 1st and second semesters. So LVN to RN at CC here can take from 3-6 semesters. I have only read the info briefly since FT is not possible for me and doing either PT would take forever. So I'm still shooting for LVN to BSN with ISU.

I do plan on going back to talk to the college people, cuz I'm thinking also this is nuts! they didn't give me much fot being an lpn for 33 yrs, maybe 16 credits.now i'm taking a& p i which i also had prior, but they can't give my a&p 2 unless I retook 1 from them. then I'ts 1 semester of micro(buy itself, cuz I work 3 days a week)then I still don't knowwhays next. I think I have to do clinicals too, the first semester,(the 1st yr is actually the lpn schooling)which again is ludicrous 4 me to have to repeat! I suppose this is all becuz it's a community college, not some hot shot 4 yr college!

I say this is a great program and don't let the clinical scare you off!! As long as you prepare and know your clinical elements (which honestly some of them are just 'no-duh's') the weekend will be a breeze. I would recommend one of the workshops as well. I was really nervous coming from three years sole experience on an OB floor and not really remembering much of my med/surg from school. The assessments you have to do though are really easy and they do try to give you easy patients!! Hope my opinion matters.
Congratulations!!! I bet you're so happy to get that over with!
I just finished EC exams and getting wound up already about the CPNE. I'm a new grad working home health w/ peds on vents, not exactly the most challenging job. My only acute care exp has been as a CNA/unit secretary and am seriously considering finding a PT job in LTC (b/c hospitals here don't hire LPN's) just to become more comfortable in pt assessment/critical thinking skills which was lacking in my LPN clinicals. I'm signed up for a workshop this summer but I know that won't be enough to get me over this hurdle. I'm going to have to pull out all the stops I think to get through this LOL.

Hello everyone,
I am so glad that there is a place for us LPN's that are in school. I am kind of a black sheep. I have been licensed since 03' and the majority of my experience has been in psych. I worked with adolesents & children that had severe behavioral problems r/t abuse, neglect or both. I did that for four yrs. before i was licensed and two yrs. after. My most rewarding and hardest job yet.... I worked in long term care for 9mths and moved again (husbands in the Army) and now i work for the state hospital in my area as an employee health nurse, in the Infection Control Dept . We have a little over 700 employees so it's a tall order. I am 27 years old and I also have two children, an 8 yr old and a 2 yr. old. My husbands leaving in July for Iraq and I'm starting my first quarter of school at the end of this month!! Prayers guys! Lots of prayers! Thanks and hope to talk to you all soon!

Hey everyone! I am new to the board, just joined today. My husband is an American Bulldog breeder and is always on some type of message board. It's so exciting to have a place of my own. I am a new LPN, just got my license in September 2007. I am in my junior semester of RN school. I will graduate in August 2008 with my RN degree (I hope). I am repeating Peds/OB because I missed it by 1.5 points last semester. I want to work as a L&D nurse when I graduate. If anyone can give me any pointers on what to expect, please do so. Oh, btw, love the board.

I'm 25 y/o from Minnesota.
Worked as a CNA for 7 years.
I am currently an LPN working in LTC. I graduated from the PN program in August 07 and started the LPN-RN program in August also! Graduating with my ASN in May if all continues to go well.
Can't wait to get my BSN My long term goal is to get my Master's, and possibly become a CRNA. I'm also thinking about joining the military, be all that I can be and so on.
