You'd be surprised at the name calling I've heard as the "Allnures door" has been slammed in my face.

I understand. There are times when I want say some less than respectful things when someone posts something really ridiculous, or unprofessional, or that makes nurses look very bad because of misinformation or idiocy.

I have to step back and not call some posters idiots at times. And I may strongly think it and believe it.

However, learning to find "therapeutic" responses to such issues, and posts HAVE helped me in personal and professional interactions. Some of that more respectful language helps me IRL interactions that are similar.

The other thing......most of the regular posters can read "between the lines" and can tell what is left unsaid. When someone posts a thread that deserves no response, they often get "no response".

The other thing, is you will find that some of us for various reasons will step away from the keyboard for a month or two, at times when we know we will be seriously annoyed and may be disrespectful.

During the episodes of the Terri Schiavo issue/Hurricane Katrina aftermath/Iran War onset/9-11, etc. some of us find ourselves having to stay away because of the overload. For me, I routinely stay low during that time of the year when people are starting nursing school. One more person looking for someone to do their homework for them, complaining about required grades and how unfair they are, how mean RNs are to students, how awful that they cannot use calculators/tape recorders/cell phones, how ugle the uniforms, and getting input on the assignment on Diploma vs ADN vs BSN .....and I may go nuts on them.

My husband stands over my shoulder sometimes (drives me crazy) and reads the posts and HE calls posters idiots . . .but then he doesn't have a relationship with folks here.

Plus, my adage is you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar . . so why hit people over the head? It just makes us defensive and we won't listen to other points of view.

Which is why I've learned so much from you, Steph. You've taught me over the years that reason and passionate political views are NOT mutually exclusive. In fact, I've come to change my mind on a number of issues over the years, in no small part because you opened my eyes to a different way of thinking.

My mother used to define a diplomat as someone who can tell another where to go and make sure they enjoy every moment of the trip..........yep, that's our stevielynn!!!

My husband doesn't stand over my shoulder and read, I call him in and make him read posts- I'll say "Honey, come here! You have read this!"

We rant and rave (and sometimes make statements regarding a poster's intelligence, or their planet of origin) together.

My husband and I are probably in a parallel universe with you and your husband.

Except I hate having him read over my shoulder . . sometimes I'll go in another room and tell him how the debate is going and we will talk about it. And I don't join him in the ranting and raving - I try to make him see the other person's pov . . .

Sometimes he sits down at the computer and reads . . he just did that now when I was cooking dinner (my office is right off the kitchen).

He would never make it on here . . he would be banned with the first post.
