This was my understanding as well.

Some post to every forum on the board. Some are soliciting or recruiting. Some are obviously PWI (posting while impaired). Some claim to be licensed nurses when they aren't or claim to have expertise in an area that they obviously do not. Some think they're being original with double entendre user names. Some are haters. Some attempt to derail perfectly good threads with their shennanigans because they disagree with the thread content and are not articulate enough to debate on an even playing field. Some just want to vent their spleen at some stranger and choose to project their personal issues anonymously onto posters.

Some people need to find something constructive to do with their time and some people genuinely need psychiatric help.

On the other hand, sometimes we -- and I include myself here -- post and we don't realize how the message is being received. We might intend for it one way, but it is perceived in another.

When I post, I tend to regard the post or the thread as "mine." Even when it's out there for umpteen million people to see and it has essentially become public property, I still think of it as "mine." Therefore, if some stranger comes along and edits it, I take it personally, whether or not the edit was warranted. Over the years, I've learned to be less inclined to take offense.

So someone deletes a post that was poorly thought out or that could land me in trouble legally, or that might embarrass me ten years later when someone drags it out of the archives and all's well in my new relationship. A thread gets deleted that's strayed so far off the main topic that no one remembers what the discussion was about.

It's not the end of the world. I'll get over it. I'm an adult. Even if I'm of the opinion that it was a mistake to edit or delete it in the long run, I can take the high road and be gracious about other people's mistakes.

Because I've never met a person, nurse, or moderator who was perfect. There is no such thing as the perfect BB. I'm just of the opinion that this one comes the closest.
Wow, that post made my day. You are a funny lady my dear Angie O'Plasty.

Re: "Sorry this thread is closed"

Sometimes, it seems that a thread is closed because it is getting too lively and interesting.

It regularly happens that when I find a debate or discussion very stimulating and thought-provoking, I can see "thread closed" just may be rearing its' head over the horizon.

When I brought up the fact the the insults to me were allowed to stand, I wasn't complaining about that- I was expressing that I am confused sometimes, because some threads are closed or posts deleted over much milder statements.

*Just for purposes of clarification, I did just find the previously referred to thread. I see that the offending post was deleted, after the thread was closed, as were a number of other posts in the thread. A number of the deleted posts seemed to me to be perfectly ordinary, harmless, posts.

Well, sometimes it "seems" that way, but perhaps you're not seeing posts that were deleted and edited, so you're seeing the sugar coated version of the thread. If a thread is taking up a lot of mod time monitoring, editing, etc. we're going to close it down. If it's too heated we might close it to reopen after some hotheads cool down. If it's getting tedious and getting no where with the same thing being said over and over again we're going to close it down.

Also, like I said some things in some forums, like the CE forum might be allowed to get more heated and since you were insulted there and didn't complain, we might have let it through becuase it was in the CE forum. Whereas one you think "gee they edited that one but not mine", perhaps that person or another person complained.

Point is there are some "behind the scene" things that make you might not be aware of.

Are we consistent? Not always. Do different mods moderate differently and are different forums moderated differently? Yes, we're scattered all over the country, of different faiths and lifestyles/backgrounds and are human. We don't always even agree amongst ourself. Do we see everything 100% of the time? No some things get missed.

We do try and that's all we can do. We realize we can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Some members just can't take it and leave because we're akin to Nazi control freaks and others complain that we aren't doing enough about a certain situation (you'd be amazed at this one) and we have to gently explain the were are going to let what they consider offensive slide through.

But again, all I can say that we do try.

Also, would like to reiterate that we DO report each other and sometimes even ourselves.

Well, I would compare allnurses to a beloved pet, or even a child- in that it can be very exasperating, frustrating, and confusing at times, but you can't imagine living without it.

Actually, that happened . . . fortunately it was a long time ago.
