Did you report the insult using the reporting function? Did a moderator respond to you as to why what you define as a personal attack was allowed to stand? Or was it something that we missed? We do miss things and appreciate a report. I apologize on behalf of the moderator team if you were personally attacked.

The other issue is one probably that you are just going to have to accept. There are discussions behind the scene and it does look confusing sometimes to the general membership why we do things the way we do. Again, my apologies.

We are all very open minded to questions about our actions. Prior to myself becoming a mod I've posted several questions (and sometimes my heated objections) here: http://allnurses.com/forums/f128/ Sometimes the answer was...too bad, our decision stands, but at least I felt like I was being listened to.

In the thread where I was a attacked, a mod broke in and said "no personal attacks" but the statements were not deleted. The thread was later closed, but the statements calling me "ignorant" and "uncaring" were left as is.

It would help more if you were to supply the specifics, such as whether you reported this to the moderators and what, if any response you received.

This is a HUGE bb moderated by some 25 staff members.........we don't always catch everything. You may be assured that if you report a post, one or more staff members will look at it and judge it as objectively as possible. However, we may not always agree that a reported post is in violation of the Terms of Service; in addition, we regard the issuance of infractions and warnings with the same kind of confidentiality as we do medical records, therefore we do not share this information with anyone other than the offending poster. This is why members sometimes think "nothing's been done" when in actuality, the guilty party has been given a warning, placed on moderation, or issued infraction points.

For those who don't know: The way to report a post is to click on the white and red triangle in the right upper corner. This will lead you to a field where you can state your complaint or problem. After you've done so, click "Report Post" and it automatically goes to a special Staff forum where each moderator can see what's been reported. Most forums have at least one moderator, so the chances that your post will be read and attended to are very good.

Hope this is helpful.

I am not against this page being a general forum.

1. Where do future nurses come from? The general public.

2. How can they find out about us? Pages like AN

3. Who can give them support in helping them gain access to nursing school?
We can.

4. Who can prevent them from making a wrong decision, by giving informatinn so they can make an informed decision about entry into nursing?
We can.

5. And how do we educate the public about the roles and concerns of nurses?
AN

We need more nurses...
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Prior to making the decision to enroll in the registered nursing program, i wanted to look up everything pertaining to the life of a nurse, schooling, pay and etc. I found answers to all of my questions right here. i have even meet other students from the school i attend who will be graduating prior to me on this site. if this was not a public site, trust me, half of you would not even be on it because it would be too boring!!!

personally, i believe that the moderators play a very important role. i have personally witnessed several harsh and insensitive comments made by "registered nurses" who are also "registered members". regardless of ones title, there are still plenty of adults on this site as well as others who have yet to learn self control, especially when it comes to sensitive subjects; and that's where the moderator's come in.

i am a firm believer that as adults we make our own decisions. no one who posts here does it by force, so if the site bothers some that much, they are free to not visit the site.

Re: "Sorry this thread is closed"

I just wanted to clarify something I stated in my post...if I may.
I know several posters mentioned that they would like to see this be a member only type board. I am one of the posters that mentioned it...but what I meant is that you have to be registered (freebie) or subscriber (paid)...not that you have to be a paid member to see the posts. I mostly was talking about guests. And that is why I said that some of the forum could be open to the general public (including guests) while other forums where for registered and premium members.

I have seen this on some other sites where you can look at a few forums but if you wanted to see more, then you needed to register.

Hugs

Re: "Sorry this thread is closed"

Can I just add a plus to the moderators? We in the Australian forum have been discussing our 'Strine, trying to 'educate' people re: our language. Now some of the posts have made me realise how our language may offend others from other countries. Yet we use most of it. But the moderators have allowed it, perhaps because they realise it is culturally appropriate (thats a term my hospital administration loves to use). So obviously the moderators do use their discretion, do think about what they are doing, and should be applauded for their efforts

As I understand it, no one is paid for their efforts? They do it for the love of AN?

Lets be fair...

Again, I apologize and again I recommend you communicate with us to find out where we are at and how you feel.
