Hi all... long time reader first time posting...I'm a long time LPN currently going to school working towards my RN but I have only worked in LTC facilities and most recently on a Rehab Unit that is part of a skilled LTC facility..I want to do something different and was looking into working in a prison.. but I want to know what the pay and benefits are like? do they hire nurses with no previous prison experience? A few places I am looking at are PHS and CMS.. anyone know what its like to work for either of these? Do they have relocation, or education assistance? sorry for all the questions..I just want to know if it would be a good move to make... I am burned out in LTC.

Working in corrections has it's ups and down's. Let me Explain ----
I worked at MANCI , in Mansfield Oh for a few years , I was what ya call a contract nurse( very seldom do the hire LPN anyother why unless it is thru agency) In the eary '90's was 20 per hour not bad right WRONG contract means you are resp for taxes as self employed GIVE A WOMAN A CHECK FOR 1800.00 AND WHAT DOES SHE DO SPEND IT .
tHEY JOB IS EASY AS FAR AS WORK GOES , NURSE SICK CALL, HOSP UNIT, LOCK SOWN , PILL WINDO,GENERAL POP. AND OH DON'T FORGET red baron runs in the middle of winter or if it is raining bUT IT WAS greattttttttt.
wORSE PART IS i TOOK THE PLACE OF AN lpn THAT WAS HELD CAPTIVE , all the officers said I looked like her and acted like her . Scarey
anyhow, if ya don't mind getting urine and bm thrown at ya once in a while , and cat calls and cursingand most of all stnd your ground then ya have it made
