I thought maybe what i said had been interpreted as such, and i just wanted to clarify

Can I ask What is it you are meaning then? as I am curious. I do think sometimes when writing on here it is difficult to understand the exate meaning of somebodies questions or quotes because there is no intonation or stress in the written word, and sometimes what is meant in humor or sarcasium can come accross differently. Of course it can come accoss correctly too, and we are all sensitive beings.

If i answered that, i'd be shooting myself in the foot.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

Interesting topic...I, too, started a thread that was not offensive to anyone. I was asking a question about confidence and skills within myself, and if others had run into the same problems. I felt cut off - like the mod was saying, gee you really DO have problems....I was just looking for a little support or advice!

I did not close your thread because it was offensive. You phrased it such as not looking for support, but asking for medical advice which is beyond our scope. Maybe it was the way you worded it?

Since you're making it public , I'd lik to say we are always open to discussion if you object or has questions. You might not get your thread opened, but at least you might not have felt cut off. When I was a general member more than once I bumped heads with the mods on issues. Sometimes the answer was "no you're wrong", other times it was "you're right".

Thumbs down Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

I'm flabbergasted.
The "nurses are pathetic" thread had a great number of posts- real debate was happening, some people felt validated, some people argued that there are real reasons to be joyous about our profession. We deal with death, dying, and sickness, we are inudated with it. A job of this extreme nature is bound to, at some point, develop problems that are just as intense as the job we do. There is nothing pretty about airing dysfunctionality of anything, be it family or job.

I can only think that the reason the mods took it down is that some of the "negativity" was actually starting to make sense, and that's threatening to a posting forum that makes revenue.

Shame on the mods. It is your very actions that symbolize the one step foward, two steps back mentality of nursing. More well trained nurses will keep leaving, more professional skilled people will bring there talents elsewhere. Mods: What was the reason you got involved in this website? Because your work life was so happy? I don't think so. You no doubt found yourselves thinking, "There moust be something else..."

Again, I am totally diappointed in nursing.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

Well ... I'm going to take a chance and be really honest here.

I think the moderation policies are both good and bad. They've certainly helped in a lot of cases but I've also had my run-in's with the mods. I do sometimes feel that the threads are moderated to the point that you really can't say anything because it might be viewed as controversial ... even if it's just a remote possibility.

I too have seen threads shut down for no particular reason that I could see and there wasn't any explanation for it either. The threads just disappeared.

I personally don't understand it because to me, at least, controversy drives traffic and one would think a little less moderation would probably be better for business.

And, to be honest, sometimes it's just plain boring. Just when a thread is getting really interesting, they'll shut it down ... and it's not like anybody is name calling, insulting, etc.

I've also thought that maybe there's too many moderators. Afterall, what's the fun of being a moderator if you can't moderate? So, when you have a bunch of them ... maybe that's why so many threads do get shut down without any obvious TOS violations.

But, having said all of that ... at the end of the day, it's their board and you have to play by their rules ... even if you don't agree with it.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

They took down the 'nurses are pathetic' thread? I must have missed that.

Let me tell you, though, compared to some sites, this site is extremely well run. They actually don't pull too many threads. Some sites are run by major control freaks, and I don't see that here.

Most site, in fact, would NOT allow this particular thread to stand.

They closed it temporarily for a "cooling off."

It has since been reopened.
