Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

Just wanted to chime in like Steph in support of the mods. Personally, this is my favorite site of about a dozen I frequent. The mods do an excellent job here, and they volunteer their time to make this board a place that over 200,000 people have chose to come to.

To all the mods here, yes, YOU ROCK!

No matter what...I still love Allnurses.
I'm glad you still love Allnurses. This kind of stuff isn't worth judging the entire site or the mod team over. Hopefully, we can discuss it and move on.

I was speaking in more general terms about the thread rather than your particular post. Sorry about that. You should have addressd it with SmilingBluEyes at the time and come to some understanding (or not as the case may be. Remember the Terms of Service specifically states there is no "freedom of speech" here.)

Having been one of those to have been called an idiot in that particular thread, I have to agree with bethin. Sometimes even attempting to support someone gets others so stirred up that they, in turn, have to put someone else down...perhaps to make themselves feel better.

Mods are wonderful. As Tazzi said (and I'm paraphrasing here so forgive me), I'd rather them be here and moderate than have an unmoderated forum. That particular thread had gotten downright nasty..and for what?? We have every right to express our emotions, feelings - but we have to do so respectfully of others. We're all adults here, let's act like it.

Just try to remember folks, we all joined this group for a reason, and whether we're premium members or not...we're still GUESTS in this forum.

I don't know about you all, but I value each of your opinions and differing points of view. I may not always agree with any particular poster, but that doesn't make what they have posted any less true or any less correct. Especially when written from thier own POV.
Have a good day, all.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

I'll admit that when the thread closed (temporarily) I found that a bit grating, but in retrospect, things were heating up rather quickly, and I did honestly wonder how long before we began to violate some of the terms -I've always been proud to count myself a member of this community -even though we don't all agree on things such as political leaning, what makes a 'good work place' or even what part of nursing we like, we have always remained civil toward one another. There have been other bulletinboard forums where I've left because things just degraded to the point that I felt like I was 'arguing with kids' -and that just isn't fun -not in the slightest. I've never felt that way about this forum.
As annoying or inconvenient as the sudden closure of the thread was (temporarily anyway) I don't think it was a bad thing.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

As a moderator, I will only chime in to say, if you have a particular issue with a specific moderator, please give that moderator the courtesy and opportunity to address it via private message so we can work things out. Obviously, we are not perfect and will work with members when we are wrong. Also please understand, we don't close threads or remove/edit posts without running our decisions to do so by our fellow team members. If the others disagree, we defer to these judgements and back down.

I will say, it would be nice to be able to address specific concerns as they arise, rather than read about them weeks or months later on a thread like this.

I appreciate the feelings expressed here and honestly believe we do our best. But there is always room for improvement, so feel free to help us make this place even better.

And to those who express their support, a hearty thank you!!!!

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

there are threads that can be used for a intelligent exchange of ideas and there are others where everyone feels so strongly that no one is going to listen to the other side and they are walk in hades before they change their mind..facts are irrelevant
i have seen some threads shut down or put in a holding pattern - most often i have seen the logic..i appreciate the job that the mods due and i salute them

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

Good idea, Chuck. I only said what I did in response to your concern here. I also wanted it understood that no moderator acts in "a vacuum" or is completely independent of the whole team. We answer to each other in all we do.

I Do think this thread has served a useful purpose and helped air out some feelings and clear up any misunderstandings as to how moderation works here at allnurses.com. Membership feedback and feelings are critically important and respected here.

Just one more thing; if you have an issue with a moderator that cannot be worked out with that person, you also have the option to give feedback to administrators (names are in RED). This is one form of recourse you can use to seek satisfaction and/or resolution when you feel communication with the specific moderator is failing for you.

I hope this helps.
