Your Constitutional rights are fully protected to prevent the gov't from interfering with your right to free speech (unless you count unConstitutional laws like McCain-Feingold).
However, THIS site is NOT run by the gov't. You have no first amendment rights in the context of a private community of ideas. The gov't is simply NOT censoring you here.
The mods ROCK. I may disagree with some of their particular decisions, but I fully value not only MOST of their decisions, but the serious investment in time that goes into making this site a wonderful experience.
Brian and the mods make this a site where I would WANT to post over 4,000 times. For THAT, they deserve unending gratitude.
By the way, THANK YOU mods. And, of course, THANK YOU Brian. Y'all are some of my favorite nursing heroes.

Timothy.

I suggest reading the TOS to answer your last question. You chose to join this bb.
If you have a problem with a mod then you should address them personally using the PM function. You're more likely to get a response that way - mods cannot read every post here.

Re: Closing Threads by the MODS

I've found the mods here to be fair, even handed and a great resource. As someone who spent many years as a "mod" on AOL in the old days (CLC, VLA anyone?) I feel I should point out that it's very hard to balance moderating an interesting, but perhaps...enthusiastic thread, with the TOS which is designed to create an atmosphere of comfort for MOST of the members.
Time-outs are designed, as stated above, to allow folks to read all the posts, or just take a few days off from the topic. Those that are closed forever seem to be so because the argument has run its course and has gone from discussion opinions to addressing posters, if I'm making sense.
It's a tough line to walk sometimes, and mods will err on the side of caution before having something get WAY out of hand. That's as it should be. There are plenty of unmoderated boards out there on the web that couldn't give a topic a good hearing at all simply because people don't show restraint.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Again, things aren't always what they seem on the surface. There are things you don't see. Mods don't close down threads for no good reason indiscriminately. Again, given literally thousands of threads the number of closures is small. We are under direction from the owner to keep as many threads open as possible. Threads are closed for TOS violations, or if a topic has run it's course.

My sincere apologies to you. I didn't mean to generalize that every poster didn't read the thread. Tazzi, did admit to not reading the thread and I was adressing that. Several other posts responded to the "pathetic" part and it was clear they were unaware the OP recanted that word (although the other words used to generalize nurses and nursing were not acceptable to others who read the whole thing.)

I think the mods do a good job. A couple give me a rash, but, hey, I can deal with it. I appreciate having a place to come that allows me to blow off steam, get support, and just obtain a chuckle. Please take the time to consider just how many individuals this BB reaches. As everyone knows, we all have opinions, so I think the service we get here is amazing. Tolerance, kindness, professional conduct should be practiced when we approach this board. I have been guilty of having a temper tantrum or two but the mods have always been kind in any rebuke. Please, follow your principles if you feel you have not been served here, but remember most of us love the BB and appreciate the hard work these mods do. Blessing today to all.

I read the entire thread and if I had been a mod, I would have closed it too. No need to call others idiots, pathetic, etc.

The moderation team on this web site work extreemly hard to keep everything flowing and to deal with threads fairly. It is almost a full time job for some of the moderators who already have full time nursing jobs. I myself find it almost impossible at times to keep up with some of the other fantastic moderators but I always catch up with the decisions, and have my say behind the scenes and believe me nothing is ever straight forward especially when a thread is closed.
We frown on personal insults and offensive remarks, they are almost always caught quickly and edited, and of course we do rely on our members to inform us on numerous occasions too.
Generally though when you consider the amount of postings this is a very well behaved site but there are always certain topics which arouse emotions everytime

Let me chime in. This site has very good moderation. They don't close threads hastily. In fact, they haven't closed this thread, which amazes me. Many sites do not allow any open discussion of moderator actions. This site is really superior.

Violation?
I did not call anyone name!
I did not use any derogatory term!
Did I incite anything?
I specifically mentioned "IN THIS CASE, SENIORITY=SENILITY."
Should I have used,"IN GENERAL, SENIORITY=SENILITY," then I fully agree with the Mod that closed my post....and YES, it should be closed for good!
No matter what...I still love Allnurses.
