Question Brand New Members Should Not Be Allowed to Start Threads Right Away?

I've seen a lot of threads started by brand new posters that are started with their very first post that seem suspicious to me. The threads seem to be either preposterous or else looking for stereotypical or predictable responses. In short, I think there are trollers seeking mischief, looking for gullable nurses to take the bait.

I know other forums have more restrictive policies on the posting privilages of new posters. One forum I joined likes to review a poster's first few posts ahead of time before giving full posting privilages. Another didn't allow new posters to start threads until they had accrued a posting history.

I wonder if that would help here?

I don't think that would be so great. Some people may join because they have a question.

It would probably be a better idea to just avoid "bait" types of posts. I don't care for the "guilty until proven innocent" way of doing things.

Or ignore them... that's the kiss of death for a troll, anyway.

I agree with the poster who pointed out that some people join because they have a specific question.

I wouldn't want to discourage new members from making posts - they may have some fresh insights. On the other hand, the board members are free to remove weird stuff, so the rules are already in place to deal with this.

Although I agree with what you are saying, jlsRN, I also agree that the person should not be discouraged from asking questions in their first thread. The forum is moderated, so there are ways to control this.
