OASIS question

MO790-management of inhalent/mist medications
Some of our nurses are not including meds such as Miacalcin, NTG spray as an inhalent or mist medication they are only including nebulizer tx or inhalers. Other nurses are including these types of drugs. Any opinions would be appreciated.

At our agency, we include all meds inhaled or taken intranasally. I referred to my oasis handbook. The handbook defininition is " identifies the patient's abilty to prepare and take all prescribed inhalant/mist medications reliably and safely and the type of assistance reqired to administer the current dosage at the appropriate time/intervals." "Excludes oral, injectable and IV medications." So, I would think that any inhaled medication which the patient is using at the present time should be included. I hope that I didn't confuse you. Same at my agency.

Any PRESCRIPTION medication via inhalation/nebulizer or intranasal route should be counted as part of MO790-management of inhalent/mist medications.

When I've observed persons taking these meds, technique usually less than desired.

TAKE CREDIT and the $$$ for our teaching skills!!

I just started home health last week...going through orientation. I used to think of an oasis as a nice place with clear blue water, palm trees, warm sunshine, cool breezes..... that picture has now forever been changed !!!!!!!

Just wanted to share this.... I was at a meeting at our corporate office a couple of weeks ago, Our Pres of the company came in and ate lunch with us and we got to talking about OASIS...............

Well, we all know what OASIS means, he made the comment that when OASIS first came out that it should have been

Medicare saying this is : Our Attempt to Systematically Inflict Suffering........... HOW TRUE.....

Just thought you all might get a kick out of that.

I agree that all meds via inhalayion nebs, MDI's, nasal sprays, discus, etc should be considered as an inhaled or mist med for MO790
