Millions of low-income seniors "and people with disabilities" don't qualify for prescription drug coverage under Medicare but can't afford the medicines they need. To help, Eli Lilly and Co. has launched a new patient assistance program called LillyAnswers. The LillyAnswers card allows eligible participants to pay a flat fee of $12 for a 30-day supply of any Lilly retail drug. Potential annual savings is $600 per medication under Lilly's $12 fee. More than five million Americans are eligible for the program. Enrollment is free and began for eligible seniors on Tuesday, with participat-

Free Medication and 'script assitance

There are some pharmaceutical companies that offer free medications to low-income families. They require a doctor's consent and proof of your financial status. Depending on what your insurance covers, you may be able to apply. A few companies even allow family incomes as high as $40,000 annually (offset by expenses, of course). Here is a list of psychotropic medications with corresponding companies that feature patient-assistance programs and their contact numbers.

Edited info: Free Respiratory medications

Medicare pays for respiratory medications delivered via nebulizer + cost of machine and nebulizer kits. RX required from PCP. Can be obtained from patients local area DME company that has a pharmacy or national chain Respiratory DME companies like Apria, Praxair etc. Karen

I just checked this post out for curiousity's sake. I personally have been telling people/patient's to check out Walmart. They have $4 prescriptions - no prescription plan needed, you just have to bring in an original script. Walmart has been slowly, steadily adding to their lists of $4 meds. There are some that aren't on the list but there may be an acceptable alternative if the doc okays it. Like one statin for another or one beta-blocker for another. Anyhow, just an easy way for people to gets meds and even cheaper than the mail-order programs. Just check out their website for details ( I sound like a commercial!)
