I have only been doing home health for a little over a month now. I live in a pretty rural area of north idaho. I was sent out friday to find a patient to do a picc line dressing change. I had to drive around the lake- it is beautiful, but winds were gusting, and it had snowed. The directions that were written from the previous nurse said to drive approx. 20 miles around lake to such and such road, and take a left. Well to make a long story short, it was only nine miles, and the sign was nailed to a tree. Two hours and 68 miles later, i found it. Does anyone else go through this, or is this just beginners luck!

I didn't work in a rural area, I had worked in a large city, and put on the miles (and time) by getting on an expressway that didn't have an exit where I needed it, then had to find my way back. Thankfully, most days weren't like that. Have a happy new year.

I used to run into that. I did home health 11 years. Good directions are essential with a trip odometer not guesstimates.

Nothing worse than trying to get directions over the phone from a sweet, l'il old , very HOH lady who doesn't know her right from her left.....

Did rural HH for 2 years....was chased by a bull in the middle of the street sliding up an icy hill in a car. It was a scary sight in my rear view mirror. Was also chased by sheep in the woods while answering natures call.....

my favorite situation was when I was lost & called the little ole' lady that was HOH ...."you just need to come here my way...towards my house."..this is the only thing she could help me with.. no concept of east, west etc... Trying to convince her that I didn't know WHERE she was & it was difficult to travel towards her if I didn't know where she was. It's funny now, but at the time it really made for a LONG day..
