I don't know if it's just this agency, but there sure seems to be a lot of animosity toward the nurses by the office staff.
There is one staff RN (me), one LPN, and the DON. We are trying to cover 11 counties, we are getting around 8-10 referrals for admissions DAILY (the owner of the company wants them ALL, even the ones no other agency will take), not to mention they still list supervisory visits, recerts and ROC on our schedules amidst the admissions. The last two weeks I leave for work early and get home late, somtimes I'm out until 9 or 10pm and I have even been out until 1:30am one night because of a narccisstic patient obsessed with the urine coming out of her catheter and her IV antibiotic.

But to add insult to injury, I was sitting in one of the offices trying to get some paperwork done and I overhear this conversation: the secretary was talking to a visitor who said, you sure are getting plenty of admissions. The secretary said, "yea, if we could just get these nurses to catch up..."
Well, my pulse started pounding and my eyesight got blurry. I wanted to say something but knew I would lose my temper so I didn't say a word.

I know I should stop whining and quit if it bothers me but it isn't really an option right now. All I can do is come here and complain.
I am actually finding myself getting the urge to curl up in the corner and suck my thumb and rock back and forth.
The DON knows how bad it is, she just keeps saying it will get better. I won't jump ship now because I have respect for her, but when I can get my charts semi straightened out I'm going to walk out that door and keep stepping.
Well, lunch break is up and I'm going out for more work.

I kknow its really bad and we must have the same narcisstic pt., is yours very entitlement minded too???
As far as the secretary goes, I hear you on that. Makes you want to do this , I have one that ALWAYS gives me lip when I ask her to do something. I want to scream at her " just shut up and do it !". But of course I have to be professional and end up EXPLAINING why I want it done. I mean why the heck do I have to explain it to her???
Anyway, the bottom line is, support staff seems to be a problem everywhere. In the hospital it was CNA's (not all). Now it's secretaries or home health aides. I don't know if its an ego thing or what.
Don't blow up over it, you did the right thing, just take a deep breath. If you do feel the need to get it off your chest, have the supvr. say something to her. Explain to your supvr. that it bad enough being overworked, you don't need morale being lowered by overhearing this kind of crap. Be very calm and professional and make sure the issue is addressed because its not right or fair that you should have to hear this...
I've read your other posts and know you've been busy and stressed. Take a little time and take care of YOU. Even if its just a nice hot bubble bath with a few nicely lit candles around ok? And a couple of pieces of tasty chocolate (just a couple!)
