Discussing HH salary over phone before

interview. I need help. How can I ask about mileage paid or how much they pay per visit without sounding like that is all I'm after (which is not all I want). I've always been told, in my previous career, you never discuss salary first because it looks bad. You can negotiate later in the interview (office career). Well, I'm finding this is NOT the case. They draw you in and surprise you with a low wage. I don't want to call and be like Hi, I'm soandso and am interested in a position with your company. However, I do have a few questions for you. 1. How does your compensation work?
That just seems too bold- right?

I would just simply ask, but that's me. Good luck!

Hi Change,

I don't think it's unreasonable at all Nurses are at a premium and most companies know that most of us like what we do or we wouldn't be doing it, but we're not entirely altruistic. I see nothing wrong with asking up front what the compensation is and while I was at it, I'd ask about benefits as well! Others may have other suggestions, but this is what I did at my present job. I knew a lot of the details before I set foot in the door. Anything you can do online to find out more will give you added information with which to deal. There's nothing wrong with asking for information up front.
Good luck - you have nothing to lose!

There's nothing wrong with asking about a potential position before you apply. It is better than to go through the entire hiring process and getting told the rate of pay last, when you finally ask, and not being satisfied with the answer. When you cold call a company, don't identify yourself.
