accessing impalnted ports

Is anyone familiar with policies recommending a once a week reneedle to implanted ports? I am trying to justify a once a week approach to accessing an implanted port of an elderly long term home parenteral nutrition patient. Any comments would be appreciated.

INS (Intravenous Surses Society) recommends changing the needles of inplanted ports weekly and it is written as part of their standards. Hope this helps.
