what are my chances for getting accepted to crna school?

I am 35 years old, have 11 years of ICU/Critical Care experience. I first got my ADN and am now finishing up with my BSN. (last semester). I have a total of 15 years of nursing experience. My GPA was only 2.5 for my ADN. Since then I have not gotten lower than a 3.2. If you look at all of my transcripts...my GPA is closer to a 3.0. I have two chemistry classes but need to take another with a lab. Would you suggest that I take it at the same college as I will receive my BSN to try to boost my GPA a little more? The college that I am currently enrolled in is costly so I was thinking of taking it at a less expensive college. Suggestions? The other worry that I have is that I had a DUI 15 years ago...do you think I would still be considered for CRNA school?

Take the chemistry course wherever. You'll need to send in all your transcripts of all schools attended, then they'll calculate your overall gpa, nursing gpa, science gpa, etc...

As far as the DUI, I honestly can't answer that, but honesty does go a long way. Given the fact it was 15 years ago, you more than likely had to jump through the 6 billion hoops to get and maintain your license, I wouldn't think it would be an issue. However, I'm not even an SRNA yet, so I'm speaking from pure speculation. Given the high availability and ease of diversion, I suppose it could potentially be an issue, but I really don't know. I'd contact the programs you're interested in and talk to the directors and be very candid. It's better to know now, than to do all of that work to be able to even apply and find out it disqualifies you.

Hope this helps...

Without a doubt you really need to get that GPA to a 3.0 no abouts about it. Take the chem of course and retake classes that you did poorly in. It wouldnt hurt taking a BS class that you know you can get a A in. People say oh dont take the not needed course but believe me they really do look at that CUM GPA more than you think.. YEah they may look and see he has a 3.2 over the last few years but if that CUM is 2.9 or so they will keep coming back to that number I promise you. Retake classes and take additional classes until you hit the 3.0 mark. Take masters level classes say an advanced pharm or assessment class ect. Bust asssssessss until you get what you need, I promise you the hard work will pay off.

I would really look into all the programs out there and find one that weight clinical experience more than GPA. Of the 4 schools I interviewed everyone made a comment about my GPA, especially science classes. Take that chem class and get an A!

Re: what are my chances for getting accepted to crna school?

Thanks for the input. I contacted the Board of Nursing and explained my DUI fear. They assured me that it is possible to get board certified as a CRNA through my state (since it was so long ago and I have not had any other convictions) Now I just have to get into school. I am going to take the Chem class this summer.
