Standing during procedures

I am currently working towards applying for CRNA school. I was wondering if the CRNA stands or sits during the procedures. The reason why I am asking is because I have extremely painful flat feet. This may be a factor as to whether not I can pursue this field (i really want to!). I tried asking this question before on another thread but it did not get a response. The anesthesia dept. in my hospital usually sits during long procedures (longer than 6 hours). I was wondering if this is true at other hospitals. Please help! Thanks!

Re: Standing during procedures

IMH,
The CRNAs I shadowed always had something to sit on. One of them stood intermittenly by choice, the other stayed seated the whole time unless needing to do something.

Re: Standing during procedures

Hi,
I've been a CRNA for 14 yrs and I sit on the job. In school, some teachers wanted me to stand sometimes. I do look over the drape periodically to see what is going on.

Re: Standing during procedures

My husband, who's an audio engineer, often works in the OR doing simulcasts- he recently said the anesthesiologist is the only one who gets to sit! In my experience as a doula attending cesareans the anesthesia provider always sat.
