Unhappy Are SRNA/CRNA's required to perform euthanasia/abortion anesthesia?

Hi all,

I'm by no means trying to start a debate here. Just a simple question I am taking into account while applying to a CRNA program.

Will I be required to provide any type of anesthesia to patients undergoing an abortion or euthanasia (only criminal at this point)?

My personal beliefs prevent me from participating in the former. My concern is that in order for me to fulfill my clinical requirements/job requirements I will be
"forced" to do this at some point in my schooling/career. Is this true? or is it as it was for my BSN, in which you signed a form stating the "personal convictions" that prevented you from participating in such procedures?

Any reply will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Most hospitals allow you to not participate in things that cause religious objections if you notify them IN ADVANCE (not only after being assigned the case).

I would imagine most education programs operate the same way. Otherwise, they'd be subject to an EEOC claim, as religion is one of the protected categories.

Now, actual PRACTICE is another thing. If you practice in a group, that would depend upon the group. In that environment, the slack of anything you can't conscientiously do has to be taken up by others. There might be some play there to make things fair.

But, I imagine that it's certainly possible to keep both your morals and career intact.

the places i have been ask if you would perform such a procedure...and then keep it on record - that way they know who and who not to assign to such things.
