Should I wait? please advise!

I am a RN finishing my BSN (spring 09) and have been working in MICU for almost three years now. I have a 4.0 currently, and will probably have a 3.85 when I'm done. Should I wait to apply, or go ahead and apply now? I'm debating, as I think more time in my BSN program (I'm in my 1st of two years) will help to prove my academic ability, and I think having my CCRN would also be beneficial to applying - but I don't really enjoy thinking about waiting another year, or two - esspeicially since I want to provide a better life for my family than I can just working as an RN. Any help?

There are SO many variables that would impact your decision to apply to school. You could make a valid argument for either side. In the end YOU and YOUR FAMILY are the one having to deal with the consequences of this decision ergo these are the same people that should be making that decision. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth. Good Luck!

Why wait? Everyone has thier own opinion on the subject. Just recieved my acceptance letter w/ barely a year of ICU exp. If you delay your application, you will regret it in the long run. What is the worst thing that they can say...... pls resubmit your application next yr.

Go for it! No time like the present!!!!!!!!!

APPLY,APPLY, APPLY. What's the benefit of waiting? You can apply now for the class begining Fall 2009. Way to go! I won't be able to apply until this time next year. Think of it this way, if you get in (I'm sure you will) you'll be one year closer to providing for your family the way you want to.
Study for your CCRN for a few months and you'll be fine on that one.

Re: Should I wait? please advise!

I would go ahead and apply. It's not going to hurt you and you could be offered an interview. Even if you don't get accepted right away, having your first interview under your belt is a good thing. I applied in the middle of my bridge program and had an interview. I didn't get accepted mind you, but I don't think it was because of that. I have known several people to be accepted on the condition that their BSN was complete by registration.

just a question...what were your grades like when you applied? My grades are currently pretty good...during nursing school they were just average. Thanks for your time...

Re: Should I wait? please advise!

My GPA: 3.89. They will look @ overall nursing/science grades, but one of my best friends got in w/ a 3.2 GPA. Sell yourself in the interview, and you will get in. As far as the CCRN cert is concerned, unless your school requires it, I would not take it...... just another set of initials to place behind your name and does not have any financial benefits. just my opinion.

Re: Should I wait? please advise!

There's absolutely no need to wait to apply to anesthesia school. You can literally earn your BSN one day and begin CRNA school the next. As an added bonus, your mindset will already be in academic mode...the downtime might only serve to make you slow to get out of the starting gate when your CRNA program begins.

Good luck!!
