I am applying to Rush and Mayo for next year, and I was wondering if anyone here currently attends or has graduated. It seems like there aren't too many midwesterners on here, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. What did you like about the program? Are there things you didn't like? Anything you wish you knew before you started? Sorry for such a vague question, but any information is appreciated. Thanks!

While I have not attended either of these colleges, I have had friends that have or have applied to the programs and gave me their thoughts.. I figured since no one has responded to your inquiry that any response would be welcomed...

From what I have heard... the Mayo interview was a little rough.... If you work for Mayo, that is the safest way to get in, otherwise they scrutinize you and ask a lot of questions. My friend felt like she had to defend her 5+ years of ICU experience and not just in case-study kinda questions...She just got a funny vibe from the panel and the feeling that if she wasn't working for Mayo, that they didn't want her.

On Rush's side, I've heard great things. While the interview process was intensive (with a test on knowledge), everyone was very welcoming and cared about the participant. Rush also has a great record for their program, leading the nation many years. Their SIM lab is also well renowned..

I know that this is all from other people and nothing from me personally, but I figured any input might help!

hmm i am applying at rush and mayo for '09 i have my rush interview next week. did you interview there yet? how was the interview at mayo??

I had my Rush interview yesterday. The Mayo online application won't be done with revisions until August 15 and the deadline isn't until October 15. I think interviews are in November. Good luck next week!

WELL, tell me how to prepare for it? Is it awful, easy, what do they do for the interview? do they test you hard core on certain things more than others? tell me all about it...

as for mayo yes they just started reviewing applications august 1st and we should get our interview letters in september. I'm leaning toward mayo clinic what about you?

The Rush interview wasn't bad. There is one part where they ask you about stuff like how you've prepared, why you want to be a CRNA, etc., and one that is more clinically focused. They give you a clinical scenario and you have to answer questions. It isn't really anything you need to study for.

Are you sure about the timing of Mayo? On their website it says:

"While you may access and review the current application form, final changes to the form will appear on the application after August 15, 2008. You will be required to use the updated form for 2008 submission."

I don't think you can really have a completed application yet, and it doesn't make sense for them to do interviews a month before the deadline.

I will go to Rush if I get in there, regardless of where else I'm accepted.

My interview is next week... anymore advice??? And I can't tell who the program director is... Probably should know for next week!

Oh... and I am getting really nervous... any advice would be much appreciated!!

Don't be nervous. It really isn't that bad. Forgive me for not being more forthcoming with details, but since we're all in the same boat I don't really think it is fair to disclose everything about the interview. You'll be fine. And Moe, I'll PM you the name of the program director.
