question about Texas Weslyan application

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me if there's an advantage to getting your application in "early"?
I will be applying to 3 schools in the Fall. Texas Weslyan has a satellite program within an hour from my home so it's one of the programs I'm looking at. On their website they say they accept applications starting in June, with a Deadline of December.
I'm wondering if I should get my materials in early
or if waiting until October/November helps???

I only have one reason that I'd prefer to wait it out...
I'm finishing my BSN in December...and will take the CCRN around October.
I'm thinking if I had these things just about wrapped up, my resume might look a bit stronger.

Any comments?

Thanks!

Laura

Re: question about Texas Weslyan application

Laura,

We, too, have a Texas Wesleyan satellite program here. At the NSNA convention in March, I spoke with the TWU Dean of Admissions for the CRNA program, and she told me that they look for a minimum of two years of critical care nursing experience . She said their technical minimum is one year (which is the time I have heard from other programs) but in reality, admits have 2+ years. She also said that they prefer "adult" ICU experience over pediatric, and that PACU, ER, and heart cath lab don't meet the requirements.

Good luck to you!!

Re: question about Texas Weslyan application

I have 6 years of previous ICU experience (I've been a nurse for 21 years). I'm in the ICU now (again) for my year of "current" experience....and I'm finishing a BSN that I never had....(I had an ADN for that long).

I have everything in place to make a decent application...
I just thought it might be best to have the CCRN in hand...
and the BSN almost done when I send the application in.

What do you think?

Re: question about Texas Weslyan application

Although TWU doesn't require you have the CCRN, it certainly gives you an advantage. I would say waiting at least until you have that done. If you can complete it sooner I would. Don't wait until the last minute to apply. You didn't mention your GRE....Have u taken it yet? If not you should do it way ahead of time in case you need to retake it. Give yourself plenty of time...don't rush anything at the last minute.

Oh, well, then no worries there!

I think you should just make sure you have all of the requirements met and then send in the app a couple of weeks before the deadline (to insure they receive it on time). I'm sure that they base their selection on qualifications, not on when the app gets there. On your resume, you can always list BSN (pending) if you have to send it in before.

Re: question about Texas Weslyan application

Just send it in whenever. I got into TWU without even having one semester of my BSN work completed. I have 3yrs exp, CCRN, 1200+ on GRE. They really look at the whole picture. Good Luck.
