Please evaluate me and give advice

Hi....

Well here's my story....got a bachelors in information science with a 3.71 from Pitt...didn't do many science classes there...but have a B- in BIO 1 and B+ in chem 1...also have A's in Calc 1 and 2 and Statistics...(if math grades matter)

Then I decided to be a nurse and went to Northampton Community College....just finished their ADN program with a 3.61...A's in A+P 1 and 2, a B in Micro, A- in Chem 2, and A in Physics.....

I start my BSN through temple in the fall and it will take 3 years part time so I have between now and then to shape myself into a more compettive applicant....haven't taken GREs.......and don't know what to expect...but I did a 1250 on my SATs in high school ....650 math 600 verbal

Anyway I've heard getting a CCRN with help.....Also I start my job in a Neuroscience ICU in about a week

Anyway what are my chances, my shortcomings, and what can I do to be a strong applicant for let's say 2010 or 2011......

Thanks

Joe

Re: Please evaluate me and give advice

It sounds like everything you are doing is exactly on the right track. I would make sure to get plenty of critical care experience and get the book GRE for Dummies. That book saved me!! It will tell you all about the GRE and how to take the test.

As for the CCRN, it just depends on the what the school finds important. I can say for certain, it won't hurt your chances. I know there are many of us out there who are not CCRN and got into CRNA school. Keep up the good work and don't give up!!

Re: Please evaluate me and give advice

Since you haven't taken the GRE yet, I wouldn't buy any books right now. The entire test is being revamped and today's study guides will be obsolete. When i took the GRE, at the end, I took an experimental section, and it was completely different.

As far as everything else, you're right on track. Definatley get that CCRN done when you can. It looks great and you'll learn a lot from studying from it.

Hope this helps...

Re: Please evaluate me and give advice

looks like you're on track. Try to get at least an 1100 on your GRE and moonlight in a busy MICU, STICU, or CTICU.

also, try to send out more than one or two applications...with all of your hard work, you don't want to put all of your eggs in one basket if you don't have to.

Plans for the revised GRE have been cancelled:

I recommend Princeton Review's Cracking the GRE and Kaplan's GRE Vocab Flashcards.
