OHSU interview

Hey all. Was just wondering about the overall impression of the OHSU program/interview process. I had a friend who just interviewed last week but I'm curious about other people's opinions. Also, any indication of when to expect notification for the class. Sounds interesting but expensive. Thanks in advance...

Re: OHSU interview

Hi Midwestern,
I interviewed there last week. They were all very nice but somewhat unorganized. The office didn't have my GRE score even though I verified that I had it sent to the correct code. I never did find the designated parking spaces that they set up for the interview.

I was supposed to be met by a faculty member and given an opportunity to ask questions before the interview but when I arrived, I found out that the faculty member had quit the week before and no one had called me to tell me. So I was frantically searching for this guy's office right before the interview.

The interview was low key, very laid back. The faculty tried to make me at ease. They were all very respectful except one of the faculty looked a little ****** off. She wouldn't look at me or smile. She yawned during one of my answers. But regardless, the overall interview went well.

They did not focus too much on clinical questions except to ask me to desribe a stressful clinical experience and how I handled it. They also asked me to describe my overall clinical experience.

They said the would let me know about acceptance within the week. I will let you know.

I did verify that the program will cost 70,000 over the 27 months. That does not include books, computers, etc. I found Portland a beautiful city with horrible infrastructure! The traffic was mind blowing. And I hear that the cost of living is horrific as well, though I never checked into it.

Re: OHSU interview

Sounds like the program will be a bit of a rough ride but will probably prepare you well (but ugh the $$$$). I'm curious because I'm originally from the area. I had heard rumors of the program but wasn't going to wait around for it...hence the midwest. My friend's interview experience was similar to yours. Any idea how many candidates they are interviewing? Portland is a great city with lots of traffic problems. Cost of living is moderate. MUCH cheaper than any big city...LA, SF, NYC, Boston, etc but more than other places. You can get a nice 1 br for probably $800 and not have to contend with too much traffic.

Anyone else have any insight into this program/interviews?

Re: OHSU interview

I have no insight into the program or interviews, but can say that the cost of living drops substantially if you are willing to commute even a half hour. OHSU is very near Beaverton and Tigard, where cost of living/rent is much more reasonable than Portland.
