I was wondering if anyone knew or heard about any pro's or con's about becoming a nurse anesthetist. Just would like to know before making me final decision about graduate school.
The only thing I have heard is that school is difficult and demanding, and there are usually long hours after you graduate and are into your job.One place I've seen offered regular hours with no nights and weekends, but it was very specialized (GI clinic or something, I can't remember).
I have been eyeballing it myself, but who knows what will happen when I get done with school (I'm starting the nursing program in August). Oh yeah- schools like a few years of ICU experience and/or med/surg. I'd check out hospitals in your area that you plan on working. I'm from Washington and spoke to two nursing recruiters that stated they didn't use nurse anesthetists at their hospital. I think they require a special graduate test. That's about all I know. I hope this has helped.
