I am presently a traveler in the NICU with 3 years experience. I was wondering if anyone out there knows if it is frowned upon to apply to a CRNA program from traveling as opposed to from being a staff nurse. I am looking to apply in 2009 or 2010 and therefore have time to become a staff nurse in NICU or an adult ICU if needed. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Although possible-make it easier on yourself. Take a staff adult ICU position for the next year and you will qualify experiencewise for ALL programs. I am a former NICU level III nurse and I went to adults just to make sure I was qualified for CRNA school. Remember that competition is tough and it will be better to apply from strength than try to explain a perceived weakness.

I agree, adult ICU is viewed as the best experience for anesthesia school. As a nurse anesthetists you care for patients across the age spectrum. My program also specified they preferred work experience in a large university medical center as opposed to a community hospital.
