I just took the GRE

1350!
verbal: 700
math:650

Best I did was 1280 on the practice exams from various programs.

I studied with: Kaplans math review book (the whole thing)
Any CD programs I could get from the library

I focused on math; i'm somewhat of a bookworm so I didn't spend much time on verbal.

Unfortunately, my undergrad GPA is 2.8 (Grad school GPA is 4.0 - physiology classes).

Hopefully though my GRE score + CCRN, etc will get me some interviews.

Re: I just took the GRE

Congradulations!! You scored very well. Nice to see the fruits of your labor pay off sometimes, isn't it? I think with the 4.0's in graduate level courses and a CCRN you'll be MUCH more competitive...as long as you're also meeting the minimum requirements for your science grades. Hopefully, your worst grades were not in those types of classes (i.e. bio, chem, patho, micro, A & P, etc.) Good luck in the pursuit of your goals.

Re: I just took the GRE

Congrats! That's a great score!

I've just started studying for the GRE and hope to take it in September. Unlike you, I feel like I will need to focus on verbal more than math.

Any words of advice?

Great job again.

Do all the practice GRE tests on the computer that you can do

Go to the library, check out all the books, and use the cd's that come with them

a couple days before the test try doing a couple tests a day, just to get your brain used to answering questions quickly

oh, the GRE for Dummies has a great section on prefixes and suffixes - really a great help if you happen on words that you have no clue what the meaning is on the test.

On the test I definitely used that a few times - I had no clue what the word meant, but knowing the prefixes/suffixes clued me in enough to eliminate some of the answer choices.

Re: I just took the GRE

I didn't go to class the first 2 years of college (my GPA was actually 1.9 at one point). I was very apathetic about school; then had some things happen and I reprioritized my life, got my act together.

I ended up on the deans list by the time I graduated with the BSN, but it wasn't enough to get my cumulative GPA above 3.0

I also discovered that I love nursing, especially the physiology, critical care type stuff; that kinda motivated me.
