Smile how's the program like??

Hey, I was just wondering for all the students in this program, was it what you expected it to be? I mean like nursing school, people tell you its hard and crazy busy and it turns out to be like that but of course not so that you dont have time to have fun. Is it like so in anesthesia school? I was thinking of getting my masters in anesthesia and I am curious what students in the program think its like. Clue me in...

Re: how's the program like??

Anesthesia school makes nursing school look like a walk in the park. Yes, the work is difficult, but doable, and it is all consuming. You will eat, breath, and sleep anesthesia for almost 3 years. Although programs vary (front-loaded vs integrated), you will have didactic and clinicals and will take call. A lot of your free time will be spent studying. If you manage your time well, there will still be a little time leftover to have some fun. That being said, it is very rewarding when your finish and pass your boards. I recommend visiting a school of anesthesia where you can speak with the students to get the real scoop. It also gets your face in front of the program director now, which may be beneficial come application time. Good luck!

Re: how's the program like??

There is no comparison between nursing school and NA school. No one can really explain how much material you will need to read, understand, and be tested on. I am in a front loaded program, and we are taking 8 classes this semester: Biochem, Neuro, Physiology, Basics of anesthesia, Ethics, (2) research classes (lectures/tests in one and assignments in both), and operational readiness (it is a military program). It is not that anyone of the classes is overly difficult, but the amount of material in such a short time can seem overwhelming at times.
For example in basics of anesthesia class: There are 4 tests this semester each test covers somewhere between 600-900 power point slides, so we will have covered about 3000+ power point slides for this semester + 1-4 chapters that you are supposed to read for the 2 lectures each week. Now mulitply that by 4 and then add all the extra work in the other 4 classes (I have 9+papers to write this semester alone).

Good Luck!
