How are my chances for CRNA??

hi there,

i am a uk trained general nurse with a BSN and approx five years clinical experience in acute care setting (medicine). At present i am completing a MSN in anaesthesia, as we do not have any nurse anaesthetists the closest i could get was a Physicans Assistant in anaesthesia, however the programme is not like your Physicans Assistants programme, the programme/role is more like a nurse anaesthetists programme (hope that makes sense). As we dont have the same opportunities here for nurses i have sat my NCLEX and passed and have a US licence to practice. I would however love to go to CRNA school, what do you think?? Can you give me any advice on how i go about doing that?

thanks for reading, hope you can help

You will need to have at least one year of experience as an ICU RN in the US before applying to any program here, as well as the green card in hand.

As a foreign trained nurse, they are going to want to see the experience first over here. Would recommend getting that started and adapting to that.

Best of luck to you.

I would agree. You can't get around the 1 year of critical care experience. I would reccomend starting in a busy ICU and while you are getting your experience, make an appointment with the director at a school you are interested in. Get their advice. Let them know your background.

I think with your current knowledge in anesthesia, you would do great.

Good luck!
