Help! Columbia ETP program...

Hi everyone!
This is my first thread so i'm excited to meet everyone.

I'm currently a junior in college working towards BSdegree in business.
I would like to go to a nursing school right after I graduate.

I am espcially interested in Columbia's ETP program (Anesthesia).
How competitiv is it? Would not having any work experience kill my chances of getting in? I have 3.7gpa as of now and have most of the prereqs completed.

Thanks!

Re: Help! Columbia ETP program...

Hi there, I actually applied to the program for the may of 08' start. Have you appled also? I did not get to go to one of the information sessions as I planned, but I talked to one of the ETP students who is in the anesthesia specialty track. He says that it is very competitive and they only have about 5 spots for that specialty. I don't know how many people apply, but I am sure that it is a fairly large number, considering that it is anesthesia. As for not having any experience, I did not ask him anything about that. Good luck to you...
Scott

Re: Help! Columbia ETP program...

Hi
it's true it is very competitive, the anesthesia program will only take about 5 ETP students every year, but you should still apply.
I have also heard of students who entered the ETP program with another major (most of them critical care) and then decided to change to anesthesia, some of them were successful in getting a spot in the anesthesia program, of course that meant they had to work a year in ICU like all ETP Anesthesia students and while they were in the ICU they applied for one of the remaining 25 spots in the anesthesia program. I believe that as long as you are a great ETP student and get a nice ICU experience you have a good chance of getting in, and if not you can spend another year in the ICU get more experience and reapply.

Good Luck
