Hello everyone i would just like to say hi to all and just to let everyone know i am interested in becoming a CRNA... i am 18 yrs old and most of family works in the hospital from surgical techs too occupational therapist lol ... but as i have read in other post i am about to be questioned why i like this feild.. well i will not lie to anyone because i am a growing young man and lying gets you nowhere for those of you who dont know that.... 1) I love science and technology so anesthesia connects with both and it has been very interesting too me.. the fact that i can make a patient feel no pain while going through a painful operation makes me feel like i am on top of the world
2) yes the pay it seems wonderful and it is good too me because i would be able to support my future family someday hopefully without problems..I know there might be a big argument but really how much does a CRNA make??? If its not too much too ask
3) last and not least patient satisfaction of how well the feel and how good i made them feel...its something that will make me excted to clock in too work when i am CRNA lol
i have shadowed a CRNA in New York Methodist Hospital And he taught me a lot. While i was there i felt good but just sayin hi everyone and any recommendations or advice on pursuing CRNA i will appreciate it thank you all and God bless

You want to be a CRNA, so does a half a million other people. This is like the rental home business, when rental homes where popular, every 18 year old wanted to buy one. Think about what the career involves rather than the MONEY!!!! I know CRNA's make six figures, so everyone wants to get the big pay. Remember, its all about how much you like your job, not how much you make.

I think it is great that you are so enthusiastic about the CRNA profession. While it is true that money shouldn't be your main focus, anyone who says it isn't a factor isn't being completely honest. Research the profession as much as you can and put your nose to the grindstone. If this is what you really want, don't let anyone deter you.

I think its great that you come from a medical family and that you have at least researched the field and have an idea what a CRNA does. We see a lot of posts like "I want to be a CRNA because they make a lot of money, can you tell me what they do?"
Reading the stickies on this BB are great, go back and read the old posts, and shadow some more CRNAs. If you live close to a school of anesthesia, see if you can arrange a tour. Many times you can shadow a bit, talk with the program director and the students to really get a feel for the program and get advice right from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Read the book "Watchful Care" A History of America's Nurse Anesthestists by Bankhart.
And, of course, get your BSN and critical care experience. There's a lot of great threads on this board about how to really shine as a candidate for school. Good luck!

i find it ludicrous that people choose an occupation (especially crna) just for the money. yeah, money is fabulous and all but there are other things in life. if people decide to be a crna just for the money, i encourage them to reevaluate their career choice. free up that slot in an anesthesia program at your school to someone who really wants to be there, not just there for the money. yeah, crna's make over 100k, but so do many other occupations (attorney, upper management in corporate, senior airline pilots, MD even.)

I know this is an old thread, but someone just bumped it...
Power to you. Also, anyone who goes into a profession without looking at the compensation and how it will effect their future is an idiot and extremely idealistic. There are to many marketing majors stocking shelves at target or serving coffee at starbucks with $100,000 in school debt.
You are smart to evaluate the profession they way you have. Study hard and cont to shadow CRNAs to keep up your motivation.

I am very impressed that you have already shadowed a CRNA. I think that shows sincerity. I wish u the best of luck. The best advice I can give u is to focus on your studies, make great grades..especially in your sciences, get your BSN asap, and find a great ICU with a great residency to train you. If u want to review the pay scale in depth (as anyone should when considering a costly endeavor like grad school) you can go to www.gaswork.com. There are CRNA jobs listed for each state & most have the salary. Good luck!
