Did i shoot myself in the foot with past grades, or is there still hope?

I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

My GPA from my AS degree is barely over 3.0. During those years i was very young, working at least 40 hours a week, and content with a 3.0.

However, my GPA from the RN program is about 3.8. (got serious about school, cut back on work). I'm confident i will be able to get through the accelerated BSN program with similar grades as the RN program.

Based on the above grades, do i have any shot at being accepted into CRNA schools, providing i do the remaining steps correctly and above average? I have read many of the different schools' MINIMAL requirements(most for a 3.0 or higher) and I fit most of them. However, i know it is very compettetive and am wondering if my lower AS degree grades will leave me in the cold.

Thanks for any time, consideration, or opinions you may give.

It seems like most schools state on their websites that they mainly look at the last 60 hours of your grades. They of course will also look at other things like your GRE scores and you could always take a grad level class to show them that you are serious about your grades and can handle grad work. Most of the posts on this site say grades are a small part of it, it is the whole package they look at. I think you'll be fine.

No, but you didn't do yourself any favors. My AAS GPA was mediocre as well (~2.9). But, I busted my butt on everything after that and carried a 4.0 from then on. Got accepted to both schools I applied to, but they both questioned my early performance. So, just make up for it in other areas (GRE, CCRN, Community activities, etc...) and blow them away in the interview. Good luck, that GPA is certainly not going to keep you out with proper preparation in other areas.

I don't think they even will look at your non-nursing schooling. They want to know how you did in nursing...And I got in with a 3.0 for my BSN, so YES...you should be just fine!!!

I had a GPA of about 2.8 as a music major 10 years ago. This accounted for about 100 credit hours of poor academic performance. When I went back to school for nursing, my GPA was about 3.8. I worked really hard to make up for my past grades by getting my CCRN, good GRE scores, etc. I have subsequently been accepted to three different CRNA schools and none of them questioned my old grades. I think that I had worked hard to show my current academic abilities and that is what they cared about.
