I believe that Barne's-Jewish and Webster University (both information St. Louis area) do not require gre, but they do expect certain sciences prior to applying. Also, check SIUE (southern illinois university-edwardsvlle). Hope this helps. Julie

Why is everyone so obsessed with dodging the GRE??? In my road to becoming a CRNA, this was an extremely small hurdle to jump over. Spend the $1000, take the Kaplan course, and put the three months into studying that you should. I think that every program should require the GRE, if only to indicate that applicants are really serious about wanting to go to anesthesia school.

In my opinion, the GRE is nothing more than a formality and serves no other purpose other than choosing between two equally qualified candidates and has no use as an accurate predicator of future success. Just my two cents.

I agree with this statement. Very few people remember the concepts tested on GRE material and I think its a good indicator of people who really work hard to excel, plus the people who's GPA really wasnt that good can have something to really excel at and it can really be a good helper to get into school. I dont see why you just dont retake the GRE and study more this time if you are so concerned with it. Since it is required for most grad school programs of merit, why not CRNA school? Seems logical to me that it would be. I wish the schools were more uniform of what they wanted or required instead of all this "they want this but this one wants that." Personally, I thought the NCLEX was a poor indicator of nursing knowledge and most of the questions were absurd but should we disregard it? I mean really, 75 questions tells me if I'm safe enough to practice nursing? Come on now!

I'm taking the GRE soon and me and Kaplan are best buddies, I'd defintely heed the advice above if you decide to retake the test!

Just remember that some of the schools that make GRE optional do so only if you have a certain minimum GPA. Make sure you are clear if there are certain conditions which affect whether or not he GRE is optional. Also, like a few previous posters mentioned, if your GPA is not that great the GRE might be beneficial to you (if you study enough) in showing that you excel in a certain area.

If you think the GRE is hard, if you actually get into anesthesia school, you will wish you had the GRE to study for. It is so much easier than anything you will encounter in anesthesia school. If you really want to go, bite the bullet and do what is required to get in, take the GRE.

I didn't think the GRE was as hard as people said it was going to be, but I love math. The verb was a little bit harder (analogies). I think the biggest deal is making yourself buckle down to study for it. But as the previous poster mentioned, when we get into anesthesia school, we will wish we only needed to study for the GRE. It's only one hurdle to get where you want to go.
