IMHO, only you can truly answer that question through doing/thinking about things like:
- Shadowing a CRNA
- Working in the OR
- Talking with your HCP
- Is your condition going to get worse?
- Are there other ways to manage your condition?
I have a chronic illness and am also considering CRNA school in a couple of years. I am about to start working in an adult ICU (I used to be a Pedi NP) and that is my first personal test. If I can not only survive, but thrive, then I am going start trying to decide between getting my Acute Care NP and my CRNA. Also, I have to make sure that my condition stays stable and that going to CRNA school would be worth the time and effort. Although I am only in my early 30's, I know that if left unchecked, my condition could get worse quickly. I don't want to spend 2-3 years in a difficult program only to be able to work less than 5 years after graduation. Also, I do not want to take a spot from someone else unless I know that I am going to be able to practice until retirement!
