Could I get into crna school?

Hi all,
Well here is my situation, Im currently attending my community college to get my RN liscense. I have just finished all my pre-req's to transfer to a four year instution. I applied to university of marylands program ,but I was not accpeted because my gpa currently sits a 3.4 . The average gpa to get into the school was in the 3.7-3.8 range. I did however manage to get into my community colleges rn program. My questions is with my gpa currently would it be possible for me to even consider crna school? My plan was to go through the community college's program to get my RN license then go onto getting my bachelors while working as a RN and hopefully getting my 1 year ICU expierence. So suppose I do that get good grades and do well on the GRE do I have a chance?

Also, I talked to one of the advisors at umbc nursing program. She told me that to be competitive for there crna program you need 3 years icu expierence. My question is do all schools really want you to have that many years? Sorry to ramble on ,but I just really need some good advice.
Thank you,
chris

Re: Could I get into crna school?

Absolutely you have a chance. While many programs will say you need a minimum of one year ICU experience, the reality is that most applicants have much more. While an applicant may meet the minimum requirements for CRNA school, you are also competing against other applicants. If everyone has 3 years experience and you have only 1 year, you are less competitive. I think your plan to work in the ICU as an RN while completing your BSN is a good one. You'll get the experience required while earning your degree. When you earn your degree, you'll likely have be very competitive in terms of experience as well. Good luck.

Re: Could I get into crna school?

The school I was looking into only required 1 year ICU experience after you had recieved your BSN of course. I'm not really familiar with all the specifics, but maybe that can help a little
