Best GRE study guide?

Any websites, online tutorials, books or CDs anyone has found especially helpful?

...or any to stay away from.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Best GRE study guide?

Hey Sepsis,

I don't think there is a 'bad' study guide/system. However, there are several different styles. I do NOT have good study habits and have a horrible time making my self stay still and study; therefore outline type references fit me better. I can pick up and leave it quickly without starting over. The Kaplan books were good for me. Probably the best study aid for me was the free Powerprep software that ETS has on their website. Honestly, I only studied for about two and a half hours total and just went and took the test. I did okay, but not stellar and still managed to get into both schools I applied to. Good Luck to you!

Re: Best GRE study guide?

I've looked into this as well. I found a thread where several people really like the Princeton Review online. It ranges from $99 to $500 depending on how much help/time you want to use it. Hope this helps and good luck on the test!

Re: Best GRE study guide?

I used the Kaplan software (I just checked it out from the library) and I thought it was helpful. I got greater than 1300.

Re: Best GRE study guide?

I used Kaplan and I usually am not good on standardized tests and scored 1280. Their bookds are very straight forward. I studied pretty hard for the exam.

Re: Best GRE study guide?

I am interested in this topic as I will be taking the GRE this summer. I definitely need to prepare, but the classes that Kaplan offers are just not affordable for me. I will likely use a book and CD's, but I would like to get ones that are proven to help people achieve good scores.

On a side note, does anyone know what a good score on the GRE is? I am not really familiar with their scoring process.

Would you mind telling us what software you are talking about?

Kaplan GRE prep book, with built-in CDROM. Search on Amazon.com for ISBN 1427795029. The Kaplan CD I used (admittedly, the previous version of this book/CD) when prepping for my GRE let you take an evaluation test. Based on the results of that test, and how much time you had to work on your weak areas, the software tailored a study plan for you over that time span. Excellent!

I'd avoid the RUE prep book/CD for GRE. Barron's was pretty good - I used it with the Kaplan.

Good luck!
