Applying to UAB

I am applying to UAB's CRNA program. Any suggestions or words of wisdom out there on UAB's process?

My friend just graduated from there. It is a good program. The interview is clinical based. I have heard people don't even get all the way in the door and the board starts firing questions at you. Just an FYI.

Wrong. I interviewed this past January and wasn't asked a single clinical question. We discussed my clinical background, but I wasn't grilled on knowledge at all. Also, the interview isn't in front of a board, but are individual interviews in the instructors and the Directors office.....however, I can't speak for the regional sites which I heard were pretty brutal. My interview experience was very relaxed and very professional. I got accepted to 2 schools without a single clinical question asked of me.

Which is a good thing because I'm an idiot.

Okay, maybe you were lucky then. i know three people that have interviewed at the Mobile site and they were ALL asked clinical questions. Better to be prepared than sorry if you aren't ready. Glad you got excepted, but apparently your interview was different.

Re: Applying to UAB

Sorry I am with Gator....

I interviewed in Birmingham and was asked ZERO clinical questions. I was asked about my clinical experience, and asked to describe my more difficult patients. There were no clinical questions at all. I actually got more of the "what are your hobbies?/what do you do for fun?/How are you going to pay for this?/What kind of personal support structure do you have?"

I dont know about Mobile, but as far as the Bham/Mont component there are no clinical questions. So, Gator wasnt the only "lucky one."

There also wasnt a "board" that I interviewed with. There were five separate interviews in each of the professors' offices.

I hear a lot of this same thing from people around here: "they grilled me with questions for thirty minutes." I interviewed at two schools (two acceptances) and neither was like that. They were both very congenial and seemed interested in finding the best fit for their school, while not necessarily looking for the person that could spout out the partial pressures of the noble gases.

The interview for the most part is a "getting to know you" phase. Getting an interview can be somewhat harder.

Ok, well the people I know all interviewed for the Mobile section. Maybe the three people I know got to be the unlucky ones and get those questions. Was just trying to help. Just relaying what they told me after their interviews.

Re: Applying to UAB

I interviewed for the Mobile component last year. We first meet with a group of three (from mobile) with mostly clinical and some why do you want to come here. We then meet with a group of four (I am pretty sure it was 4, one was the director down from Birmingham) pretty similar to the first group but less clinical more getting to know you type questions.
