Re: Anyone have Info on WCU or SCU (Carolina) CRNA Programs?

WCU is a new program as of this year. I had recently heard from someone in my program that the director had left already. So take that for what it is worth. The former director of WCU was once the director of Duke's program as well. She left Duke to start WCU. That is as much as I know. I didn't apply because the program was the new kid on the block. I would be very cautious if I were to get an offer to a school whose founding director has bailed ship in less than one year. You need to think worse case scenario and this could be purely speculation into why the director left but what if there is a possibly that this program may not get accredited?

I know that Johnson was not the original program director when the program began a short time ago.

A program is not fully accred until they graduate their first class to my understanding. So if this program began in Jan 07 then they will be due for re-survey in May 09. Look at the COA site.

Helpful thread- I'm in Asheville (right next to WCU's Enka campus) and am thus considering the CRNA program. I'm also worried about the newness of the program, not just for accreditation, but for overall education. Anesthesia ain't nothin to #@* around with. The reputation of their general nursing program doesn't help their questionable status. Anyone have any updated info on the program? Anyone in it at present? It could be great despite its newness, and being right here in the southern Apps is a huge plus for me.
