Just curious how many people out there are in the same boat as me. I've applied to medical school 3 times in the past and didn't get in. I'm now applying to CRNA School.

Actually, I've seen more the other way around (pre-nursing rejects applying and getting accepted to medical schools).

cvicu80, you are a smart person for applying to CRNA school! I'm going to TCU this fall. My boyfriend is an MD, and all of his medical school friends said I was "really smart" for wanting to go to CRNA school. Now, his residents are saying the same thing. Granted, if I wanted to be a surgeon, then CRNA school would not necessarily be the correct choice, but anesthesia is freakin' awesome and we'll get to do some pretty cool stuff, learn a ton and get paid appropriately for it.

Getting into med school is really a crapshoot, from what I've heard per my boyfriend, his med school friends and his residency friends. He barely got into school himself, even though he was in a fraternity, did biomedical research, was on the triathlon team for college, did legal work and had a GPA of 3.98. He got in with only 2 weeks notice. He frequently says that it's "luck" more than anything else--well, maybe if you're a minority that helps a little, but the applicant pool is just so crazy.

Anyway, gotta run to work, but I just wanted to say you are making the right choice in pursuing a career as a CRNA. Have you applied to schools yet?

I was in the same boat as you. After several years of nursing, I decided to go back to finish my pre-med degree. I scored a 30 on the MCAT and thought I would be a competitive med school applicant. I applied twice without luck and decided to change my focus to CRNA school. I'm not getting any younger and I have a family to think about. I have many close friends who are MDs and all of them recommended CRNA school over med school. The funny thing is, they are all finally finishing residency and I'm starting back to school in the fall. At least in a few years we'll all be settled in to our careers and have a little more time to get together.
