Advice for CRNA School Interview

Of all those who have completed the big interview, would anybody like to share tips, To-Do`s and NOT To-Do`s, typical questions that are asked in an interview, basically anything to prepare potential students to help get accepted into this wonderful program?
Thanks.
Also, do you know of any programs that offer the courses or even some of the courses online?
Thank you!

Re: Advice for CRNA School Interview

The best advice I can give you is to not go into an interview with prior knowledge of interview questions. Bad idea.

Re: Advice for CRNA School Interview

My advice would be to review what you know about the vasoactive drugs you usually administer on your unit, and how they do what they do. Second piece of advice is to (try to) relax and be yourself. Don't be afraid to admit you don't know something, you will be better off to be honest than to answer something incorrectly.

Do you mean one should go into the interview WITH prior knowledge of the interview questions?

When I asked an admissions coordinator how to prepare for the interview she said to speak with people who interviewed in the past.

Re: Advice for CRNA School Interview

My advice stems from the situation at the schools in my area. It is frowned upon to have knowledge of questions because it clouds your actual knowledge base. Our interview is strictly clinical. (Maybe 2 questions regarding life) They want a true and accurate assessment of your skills prior to starting the program.

The way I answered the question was correct. However, that was for this area. If the director at your chosen school is ok with it, GET AS MANY QUESTIONS AS YOU CAN. Master everything you can get your hands on. Then again, if the interview isn't clinical, then go to the bookstore and read up on interviewing.

Regardless, BE YOURSELF. Most of these people have been doing this for a long time and can see right through people. Don't fake anything. Be HONEST and admit when you don't know something. On several occassions in my interview I said "I dunno" and I got into school and out.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Re: Advice for CRNA School Interview

It is normal to be nervous! Just try to prepare yourself as much as possible. I went through 3 interviews and was nervous everytime! All three of my interviews were just like a normal job interview....wanting to know strenths, why you want to be a crna, why you chose this program. Remember to tell yourself the interview panal as all been in your shoes at one point in time too!! Best of luck!

Re: Advice for CRNA School Interview

my advice...

be assertive, not aggressive
be humble, not cocky
be totally and brutally honest...If you don't know, SAY SO, but follow it up with how you would get the right info.
don't be afraid to ask questions for more clarification on clinical issues...that's what we do in real life anyway....

Do the above,

Smile, Breathe, Relax, it's only that most important interview that you will ever go on Thank them for inviting you.
Think about what type of questions you would ask someone, personally, academically, clincally. Type the responses out have someone say them back you and see how they sound.
