It is now offically 5 months until I start the program at TCU. I am nervous, excited, and just plain READY! I am contemplating auditing an organic chem class this summer, probably more to pass the time than anything. What is everyone else doing this summer?

I have 9 months to go (start jan 09) I too am nervous but ready to get started (well fulltime that is) I am taking core classes currently up until start of program to get them out of the way. but between quarters I have mini vacations planned for each week or so between classes. figured i need to get them in now so I can think back on the good times while I am stressing over school.

Girl...You need to chill!!! Your time for schooling is coming quicker than you think and you need to relax and enjoy the little bit of time that you have left with your friends and family......You know that you won't have 5 months of time to be free too much longer.....If you can, go on a nice vaction with your girls or family They won't be seeing too much of you in 5 months.

Bio, you don't understand. I NEVER relax! I just recently resigned from my job & I am going nuts! My typical week is....2 12-hour shifts, 1 day of lecturing either at seminars or conferences, many hours of research (currently I am co-writing a chapter for an ER reference with a physician) for whatever my latest project is, and preparing for upcoming presentations at other seminars. On top of that I've been shadowing a CRNA 12 hours a week for almost a year now. So, as you can see, it is not in my nature to relax! I feel like I am wasting time!!!! Up until this month my typical week was about 90 hours long. Oh yeah, and I've recently taken up a weekend on call job for extra cash. I wish I could take core classes to get some out of the way. Anyway, the positive thing about all this is that my family is already accustomed to me spending hours busy with my nose in a book. I'm actually one of those geeks who reads medical journals for fun in bed or during my bath at night. My current selections? "Cecil Essentials of Medicien, 4th edition" (John Martin at TWU recommended that once accepted I should get an internal med book to prepare) and "The Anesthesia Fact Book." Yep, I'm a geek and proud of it!

You are very busy. I know how you feel. But can I give you an advice that I wished I listened before I started school. Take a vacation before school starts....
And good luck. I am very sure you will enjoy CRNA school.

Yep Xigris, you r right! But we always take time off from work to play...summers we always go diving at least once, winters we ski. So this August we will be in the Cayman's and come back the week before class starts. Believe me, it will be all about beach, sun, water, and cold drinks in the hammock!

With any luck, I'll be engaged this summer! I'm making my drive from So Cal out to Fort Worth into a camping vacation, and hopefully check out the Carlsbad Caverns on the New Mexico/Texas border. Until then, my boyfriend and I are going to climb Mt. Shasta in April/May (if weather permits) or go to Yosemite, and then do day-trips around the DFW area since I come out to visit once a month. We visited Guadelupe State Park, Big Bend, Monahans and Abilene last June when I helped move my boyfriend out to Dallas. Also, we would love to take a few days and visit Palo Duro Canyon before summer! All in all, when I'm not working, I'm going to take the advice of many SRNAs and CRNAs and that is to play, because recreation time will end with the induction of school!

Palo Duro is great! We went hiking there a few years ago. You should go to Marfa and see the lights. It is spectacular. My hubbie would love it if I would go camping more, but my idea of that is a cabin, cabana, chalet, etc with room/maid service, a fireplace, hot tub, etc. I can rough it all day as long as I have comfort at night, although I have been known to ski in to the lodge and stay by the fire with a hot toddie for hours on end...........ah, I'm ready for a vacation!

Unfortunately, I don't see another ski vacation in the works until sometime after December of 2010....won't have time or money. Although I fight the urge to take some classes and study all summer, I'm going to take advice from many of the posters who say "don't do it". We are planning a spring break trip with the kids to Fredericksburg and San Antonio. My husband has already transferred to the Fort Worth area, but the rest of us are stuck here until our house sells. It's the only time we'll have until school starts. Hope all enjoy their summer and I am really looking forward to meeting everyone.
Californianurse~ since you guys love the outdoors, I suggest you take a drive to Fredericksburg and climb enchanted rock. It's not Mt. Shasta, but I think you'll like it and the blubonnets are beautiful!

And you can walk around the street with your beverage of choice! When we lived in SA we would go there on weekends, buy a bottle of wine, & just walk around shopping. It was very relaxing. There are a lot of great cabins & things to rent there also. It is beautiful this time of year. Does anyone know how long we have for Christmas break this fall? We would like to plan a ski trip but don't know if we'll have time.
