Yikes!

I had one tough nite. Dang. I had a person who was having problems with bone CA in her hips, and trying to get her on the bedpan, and I had a person with ulcerative colitis, who was getting blood and had a blood transfusion reaction, and I had to give her demerol, and tylenol, but she's fine now. And I had a guy with SOB, and colon CA, but no one knows how the two are connected, or if they even are. I had a guy with Gallbladder CA, and needed something for pain, I got him something, but dang. I tell ya. Shoot. Not a great night, and I am looking forward to some time off. I'll be honest... is this normal????

Re: Yikes!

Yes. Heme/onc patients are very intensive and very ill; many are just one step away from the unit.

Re: Yikes!

Hiya Dude!
My first job out of boards was on an Onc/Hem unit. You will be running yourself ragged almost every shift. Be glad you're on nights. It was so much more chaotic and stressful for me on days before I segued to nights.

You didn't mention any errors. Sounds like you handled it like a true pro!

Well done
