Venting...

I am so psyched to start my first days as a NURSE.

I was supposed to start Mid July, but during the begining of my long overdue vacation to California to celebrate passing nursing school I broke my ankle.

Now i cannot drive, leave my house by myself (which sucks because it is depressing here with my parents-a whole other story), and have become dependent on the kindness of others (which I do not like) to do my ADLs--and i will be like this for a total of 10 weeks or even more....
So it means I cannot start until the next orientation in August, and of course cannot work as a nurses aid now (which means zerooo money for me)

And the thing is I am sooo pumped about starting. I want to start and get the first year done with. I am soo excited to see what working will really be like for myself. And to develop as a real nurse. I have been more scared, nervous and excited about my first year than all of nursing school!!

Now the last summer of freedom before I start my career seems to consist of me sitting around the house on the computer.
My boyfriend is not making much money, and is extremely busy with school and work to be here for me as much as he should.
My 'best friend' has a boyfriend now and does not seem to need/want me as a friend unless he goes away--she has called once and not even come to visit me or pick me up because she is too busy with her boyfriend and life (my boyfiend is ****** too bc i have been there with her for soo much)....Also no insurance..... and I am 30,000+in debt.

To say the least I am a bit depressed about this. But i am not entirely a pessimist. I know that with every bad there is a good, as with every good there is a bad.
I know have lots of time to study for the NCLEX(which I am not tooo scared about taking though) I can practice assessment skills, take ACLS and IV classes when i am able to bare weight again...
Also, i had to have a surgery, and was hospitalized for about 40 hours total, so it was a learning experenice to be a patient right before I started as a nurse.

I am just venting to my fellow nurses since I have eight more weeks of sitting here.... on the couch or on my computer which is up the stairs and I do not feel like crawling too all the time....

BTW if anyone knows anything about renting wheelchairs (it is tiring to walk on crutches for more 2 minutes) let me know!!! I live in Chicago and would like to go to festivals with a wheelchair

Thank for listening!!!

Re: Venting...

I am so, so sorry. What horrible timing!

If I were youo I would call the hospital and ask if they have a wheelchair rental program, or call the festivities location and see if they are available.

Prayers for you to get better soon!!!

Re: Venting...

Sad that you broke your ankle, but consider it a great opportunity to gain an understanding of what patients can go through. Keep a journal about your situation might come in useful in the future for relating to patients. A nurse with real empathy because you have been there!

Re: Venting...

HEy Kel,
Just because Jen has let you down does not mean the rest of us have forgotten you. Any time you want to come out just call me and I will do my very best. I know that I called you yesterday, but I thought that posting that your friends think of you just might cheer you up a little.
D.
